Hey.

What are the known Problems with converting from IPB (lastest) to VB (latest)?

I just want to know if it will cause any problems.

One issue i know heard that when converting from IPB, the passwords dont work anymore and you have to reset them for every single member? Is that true?

The members can reset their password via the lost password link.

Thats too much work for the members and more than half of the member will have problems resetting. This will also cause the members to leave the forum..

I heard it over on IPB forums that it is now possible to convert their pass aswell?

Can a VB Staff confirm this?

IPB2 passwords are encrypted and cannot be imported.

There might be some way?

What needs to be done to IPB so it can be allowed to transfer it over at VB? Is there any process, etc?

I am willing to put extra money into this conversion if it requires, but i want everything to turn out well..

Sorry but we do not have such a solution. If we did we would make it a part of Impex.

Incorrect, Steve. There is a solution, however it involves modifying vbulletin to work with IPB's password scheme. There was a thread about it somewhere where Jerry even acknowledged a possible solution.

I made a suggestion to do something a bit like this for phpBB2/3 just a few hours ago. Basically, you temporarily adopt the phpBB hashing method (which is easily found on the internet somewhere), and it's just a mutated version of Blowfish. Once they log in, you tell them to type-in a new password to re-hash into MD5, the method vBulletin employs.

Cool or what?

I am not 'incorrect'. There is no official solution at this time and the one you refer to has a lot of potential problems, which is why it has not been implemented. Please do not post when you do not know what you are talking about. Thank you.

I'll post again seeing as Steve deleted the last one.

Steve, I am not wrong. It is not an official solution, but I never said it was. And no, it doesn't have potential problems.

awaisuk, i'll help you privately - i'll PM you later today.
