large sites

I was wondering what the architecture for very large vB sites looked like? Who is serving forums with many tens millions of posts, twenty thousand visitors logged in, etc.

How does it all scale?

Must be a load balanced server farm / cluster. You can find the biggest forum list on big-boards.com and ask some of the top forums admins personaly :)
