Okay, been doing a good deal of research, and have decided that I need to make the leap to a VPS solution in order to get a reasonable level of performance with vbulletin and the number of visitors I have.

I've been reading the reviews and everyone has something good to say about everyone.. seems like everyone who has any level of clients also has negative feedback. Having said that, one host Im looking at is VPSlink (http://vpslink.com). Looking at level 3 to start with, which is
10GB Disk space
300 GB bandwidth
256MB Dedicated Ram

My website stats for April are
13.84 GB bandwidth
2326952 hits
571185 pages
63928 visits
25540 Unique Visitors

Vbulletin vitals are
Max users ever online 182
2751 Registered users
12,321 Threads/76040 Posts

In addition to the vbulletin database, I will be running "ADPEEPS" ad software, running banners on the message board (not thread pages), and some static html pages.

I've been experiencing multiple database timeouts with the shared server, so it's time to move. Im hoping the above site will fit the need (at least for now), and they have plans available for growth.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated on what other things I should look for.

Thanks

Mike

Decided agains vpslink. Primarily because it is an unmanaged vps, and Im not quite prepared to take that additional work and learning curve on right now (I have a day job unfortunately).

Dave - I did look at your recommendation, but would prefer to host with someone in the US, and preferably in same time zone, or very close.

Narrowed search down to futurehosting.biz and knownhost.com

Reviews I've read on both are very good. Futurehosting has a 15% off for life offer, which is very attractive.. plus a RAM upgrade, so Im leaning towards them. With the 15% off, I can raise my package level one, and still be a buck cheaper than they plan I was looking at. Comes equipped with Cpanel or Plesk, for same price.

Only drawback on knownhost is price is a little higher ($40/month) for the same package I can get for $33.95... has a little less RAm (I can get 512MB Ram with Futurehosting, and it's 320 with knownhost), plus they charge $5 extra for cpanel or plesk.

So, based on this, Im leaning towards futurehosting. Any thing I should be aware of, or any "issues" out there with them? Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Mike

Do what I have done, buy VPSL for US$30 + add 128MB RAM for US$7.5 + CPanel for US$5 = US$42.5/month for a 384MB VPS. You can also add 64MB RAM for 5bucks, instead of 128MB and bring the final total to 40bucks.

But with Futurehosting.biz, I can get 512MB RAM for $33.95, to include cpanel. Why go with vpsl and pay $42.50 for less RAM?

After reading your post went to WHT and checked their thread, its either 15%off or 128mb extra RAM on their 384MB VPS, which costs 39.95. In any case its a good deal.

In any case 256 mb ram wont be enough for you. Go with a minimum of 512 mb assured ram, which means a top end VPS. 182 users online at a time is not a small forum.
