You would pay 160 for the owned license which is what I would suggest to any new customer. After that, you would then pay $40.00 per year to continue downloading the latest versions.

$160.00 for what you get is cheap. I have tried almost every forum platform there is and vbulletin is by far the best. Dont even waste your time with the others. Also, you get top level support and a mod community that makes it a steal.

I wouldnt call vb the best.... It has more features out of the box, but looking at some of the coding, I prefer other boards coding :-)

I agree. vBulletin in my eyes is by far the best bulletin board solution out there. Not IPB, phpBB, SMF or any of those get close to it. And I used to be a hard core IPB user back when it was first released. But as dkon26 said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. ;)

You definitely are entitled to your opinion but I'm a programmer and I think vbulletin's coding standards are far better than any other forum system out there.

IMHO vB is the best of the best. i don't know about coding.

the support, bug and security fixes come out faster than any of the others mentioned in this thread can offer.

most hosts have phpbb preinstalled, however what they have most often is NOT the most up to date version meaning you need to find a current version and instal it. a new vB licence gives you access to the most current version that is out right then. with vB you have a choise to upgrade or not every year.

IBP isn't bad but they are most of the time behind vB in options to use and no mod site for addons like vB has. (vb.org is NOT an official vB site however the devs there script nice addons for vB)

vB's coding may not be the best, but vB's coding is by far the most reliable, stable and in my opinion secure there is. Not to mention you get great support, rapid fixes for security issues, and via vbulletin.org, a wealth of coding help, plug-ins, hacks and more.
