At a max we've hit 400Gb per month, and our regular payplan is 320Gb per month. What would you all recommend???

install mod_gzip and compress all web pages by 25 - 90%
i.e. your front page at http://leknor.com/code/gziped.php?host=purehonda.com&path=%2F will be 75% smaller!
Mod_gzip install guide

you main page would be compressed and reduced in size by 85+ %
http://leknor.com/code/gziped.php?host=purehonda.com&path=%2Fcontent%2Fhtml%2Findex.php
and your vB forum is not gzipped either otherwise frontpage would be reduced in size by 60% as well

How does mod_gzip work? Does it have any side effects?

my whole server has mod_gzip installed which reduced my bandwidth from 150+ GB/month to 100+ GB/month
on average you'd see 25 - 33% reduction in bandwidth each month depending on whether site is text or graphics intensive - since mod_gzip is text only compression

shouldn't he consider dual dedicated at that point? like vbulletin.com . don't they use two dual 1gig p3 systems? one for php and one for the database? IIRC

Yes these forums run across 2 servers. But those two servers host a couple of other very popular boards as well; it isn't just this one.

Get 2 server from Rackshack.net :) $99 each with 300GB
Where does all that bandwidth comes from? Wallpapers, video download? or from forum?
Maybe you register another domain purehondaforum.com and put it in one server and other contents in another server.

Is it normal for a site to have this high bandwidth? After talking with someone, it was suggested maybe our site is hacked, and being used as an FTP server.................

I wouldnt think that this is normal, unless you are running a porn site with lots of streaming media and downloads...you may want to check your logs and see just where all of that bandwidth is going to.
BTW, your site is down at this moment, as I couldnt get to it at all!

Are you sure of this?
because I add .. mod_gzip_item_include mime ^image/.* and check this out
209.x.x.x - - [01/Sep/2001:16:54:53 -0600] "GET /images/top.jpg HTTP/1.1" 200 7405 mod_gzip: OK In:10736 Out:7405:32pct.

No, it's not down, but we are having these "bandwidth" problems and sometimes you have to keep refreshing, forcing your way in. And we'll get right on the logs...

of course with dedicated servers, email, and ftp transfer count towards your bandwidth

i'm converting one of my web sites to more text based to take advantage of the mod_gzip compression and faster loading pages.. just have to learn how to convert it into php/mysql templated based site

Went to pure honda and realised that he have a HUGE collections of pictures for honda cars. Really nice collection :) There are some video and wallpapers as well. Never really surf in-dept.
Check your log to see where all that bandwidth come from. It would be nice to tell us your site page views per month. We could easily estimate bandwidth usage from there. If you have like 1 million page view, your site wont consume that much of bandwidth.
If you do really uses so much bandwidth, put all those graphics in a RAQ4 from rackshack. 300GB for $99 should save you heaps of money.

Thanks. Your username looks familiar. Have I met you on another board before?? I want to say Honda-Acura.net, but I may be mistaking.

Spoke to Hayden, and we get approximately 200,000 views a day. This translates to aopproximately 6000000 views a month.

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't believe we're running on an Apache server. If were are indeed not running on one, where can I find a compatible script like this for our server, whatever it is..........................(hehehe, sorry for not being more specific. I do know we're hosting through www.elosoft.com at the moment)
