Okay...

I upgrade the software from 3.7.0 RC 1 to 3.7.0 Gold the other night. I noticed that Hostgator upgraded the SQL and PHP on my server about an hour later, so I am unsure which has caused this new error.

These are my current versions:

vBulletin 3.7.0 Gold
vB Blog 1.0.5
PHP: 5.2.5
MySQL 5.0.45-community
PERL 5.8.8
vBSEO 3.1.0
HOST: Hostgator (Swampcroc pkg)

The error I get is: "SQL Server has gone away"

Sample:

Database error in vBulletin 3.7.0:

Invalid SQL:

(SELECT permissions, permissions2, FIND_IN_SET(forumid, '1,-1') AS pos, forumid
FROM moderator
WHERE userid = 15 AND forumid IN (1,-1)
ORDER BY pos ASC
LIMIT 1)
UNION
(SELECT permissions, permissions2, 0, forumid
FROM moderator
WHERE userid = 15 AND forumid = -1
);

I submitted a ticket to Hostgator support to ask if their upgrade on SQL or PHP could have caused this. Their answer?

I don't see any issues with the sql service at those times. Your query returns almost 70,000 rows. Please refer to the following:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43505 (wlmailhtml:{9E661007-52F1-4FD6-B004-4B4632DED43F}mid://00000032/!x-usc:http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43505)

The timestamps you displayed below make 1 invalid, and we can not increase the limits as suggested in 3. Check with the vbulletin community to see if there may be a patch for this to make sure a close statement is not being issued, or to reduce the result size.

Didn't do it before the upgrades. Don't know if this new error is as a result of the vBulletin upgrade or the Hosts upgrades.

One user compained today of a new issue:

Every time I try and do a search I get the error

I called the user and he gets this message everytime he searches. But I don't get it. I had him search for "weather" while on the phone...and he got the error everytime. I did and and never got the error.

The "Who's Online" not showing everyone that's on either. Seems like it comes and goes- I minute all the spiders fall off and the next minute, they are back.

Also, getting a bunch of these errors:

Database error in vBulletin :

mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

I've had this domain with this host for three years and have only started having problems since this upgrade.

...worried the 3.7.0 Gold upgrade may have been a mistake...

Was caused because he was searching from the search module in vbadvanced. Nevermind on this part- I realize that the add-ons will need to be rewritten for the new security. But still concerned about the "can't connect" and "SQL has gone away" errors.

Hello,
I have increased the interactive_timeout a bit on the server to prevent these issues. Please let us know if you see these errors again.

Best Regards,
Shashank Wagh,
Systems Administrator & Level III Support,

2 days and no more errors. Guess 3.7 is just a little more of a resource hog and requires some tweaking on sql to make it work.
