I was just reading Kier's thread (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1542647#post1542647) which stated that vB is now recommended PHP 5.2.5 and MySQL 5.0.51. I just want to get a clarification that this is a recommendation, not minimum requirement. My host is currently using PHP 5.2.5 but mySQL 5.0.45, so I just want to make sure that it will work with vB Gold. Currently, vB 3.7RC3 is running fine with the current setup on my end. :)

Hello,
Why are they recommended? Is it stability, is it speed or something else?

to seems like a speed issue...i currently run php 5.2.4 and mysql 5.0.45 RC it is a noticable change in load times from 3.6.9 to 3.7.0 RC3
im also having template issues...they arent saving and giving me a blank page when i save...im hoping when i upgrade my server to meet the recommendations this is fixed
other than that i have 0 issues with 3.7.0

We always recommend running the latest versions of PHP and MySQL. Therefore, the recommended versions have been updated to the latest versions of these. As long as you are running at least the minimum requirements then you can install and run vBulletin 3.7

Hello Kerry-Anne,
Thank you.
The keep up to date reason.
PHP 5.x is around for quite a while now and I recall it was (in the past) recommended not to upgrade to that, mainly because of speed issues, but also compatibility.
What's the status on that now? And most importantly, how is it for Vbulletin? There's also the option to use MySQLi (when SQL version is right). I've seen a speed comparison between PHP4 and PHP 5 were version 5 was 5-10% (?) faster in some operations and I saw a claim about applications becoming slower.
To me, recommended means best performance and/or best security and/or compatibility.
How does Vbulletin 3.7 perform on various configurations using an identical, say 500 mb database?
Home computers are benchmarked and compared, I think it's good to do for scripts too. I think a local server is best to bench that as this excludes www variables.
