View Full Version : Possible to import one thread?

I'm interested in importing one very long thread from a webcrossing forum into an existing vBulletin forum. I don't need private messages or to recreate all the users' registrations or anything like that. I just basically want to pick up one thread and import it into a subforum on my existing vBulletin forum.
Is that even possible? If so, how difficult is it, generally speaking, to go through the migration process via impex? ie, would it be too much trouble for one thread?
Ideally, this could be a test run for importing the entire webcrossing forum into a vBulletin forum. Have people had good luck in migrating from webcrossing to vBulletin? I haven't seen a lot of specific information on that.

Webcrossing is hit and miss due to the format of the source data, i.e. a huge SGML file.
Opposed to editing the source, I would run the import, then just delete what you don't want.

When you say hit and miss, how difficult is it to get the migration done? Is there usually a huge amount of cleanup that has to be done after the import? A friend of mine wants to migrate a large webx forum to another software, and I've recommended vBulletin based on my good experience with it. But I should probably also give her some sort of realistic idea of the difficulties involved in that kind of migration. I'd intended to import the one thread as a test-run to see how difficult it would be, but I'm not sure it'll be feasible to import the whole thing and prune (her forum has quite a lot of data).
Thanks so much for your help!

To actually do the migration is quite easy, it's a normal file based ImpEx import, install ImpEx, point it at the file, hit go.
Cleaning up the HTML that slipped though the parser afterwards is always going to have to be done on 75% of imports, though it all depends on what kind and sort are in the webx source.
If you have access to their board, I'd suggest getting the backup file and testing an import with your own dev site in private, then you'll see yourself what the results are.
