Dear everyone,

I'm hosting my VB on a shared hosting, and I'd like to migrate to a dedicated server. till now I have VO and Site5.com on my list as a candidate.

- Does anyone have any experience with site5 or VO?
- Do I have to do the installation myself or the company will do all required installation to host my VB.
- Do you have any recomedation as I really don't have much exprience with dedicated service.

TIA,

VO all the way. you will never hear anything bad about VO. they are a time tested host around here for both dedi and shared. i just got on one of their dedi #1 servers.

plus VO is on a more 'mainstream' NOC than site5. VO has great support too.

I have a dedicated with VO and I highly recommend them. Superior service and support! :)

They'll set up the server for you, but you'll need to install your vB. They can do this for you, but it would cost extra.

VO are fantastic!

I have a server with them and I have not looked back. Daniel and co are great with support and only charge you if you mess something up, like you recompile a custom apache build and balls it up.

I'm planning to move to VO based on the recommendations here, will get a dedicated server.

My only fear is moving my databases over, as the thought terrifies me with my AOL dialup connection (not to mention my lack of knowledge). Do you know if their tech would move it for me, with the standard tech fee? I would easily install the VB myself though, it's just the transfer of 2 large VB databases that I worry about. (We have 2 domains on our current deda, each running large forums)

then don't upload them from your local drive. dump the databases, telnet into your new server from your current server, open an ftp connection and transfer the databases directly between the two servers using the OC-? on the remote end. :D

Thank you guys for the usual quick replies, two more general questions:

Do I have to be Redhat linux pro. in order to manage my dedicated server (what level of linux/unix experience is required)?

Ddoes anyone know where VBulletin.com bulletin is hosted?

TIA

TIA well you can always get the new web host to help with the move :

this forum is hosted with Verio.com whereas, Venturesonline.com is colocated (servers located) with Verio.com's Denver datacenter
