I have a custom usergroup called assistant moderators. I want to give them the ability to close and lock anyone's thread but I don't know where to go to check off that option. I went to usergroup manager but the only option is for them to close / open their own thread. Any ideas on how to give them this ability? The reason why I don't want to give them the default usergroup, moderator, status is because I restrict several subforums in the moderator-only forum from the assistants.

If you have a usergroup set up as a moderator. You can go to the admincp > forums & moderators > view all moderators > and edit their moderator permissions there. Note a moderator should be added to a particular forum in order to be able to do something with that forum. (A super moderator has access to all forums)

No, but they're not...they're a registered member (regular user) because they are moderators in training. I created a new sub group for them. Here's what I want to do:
1) Give new subgroup ability to open and close other people's threads.
2) Not have access to the Mod CP. (Which is why I can't make them mods)
3) Let them into the Mod's eyes only subforum.
I've taken care of 2 and 3, how do I do 1?

One is either a moderator, which grants them certain moderator permissions.
Or they're a user. there's no hybrid.
