After combing through about 400 threads (including the mammoth sticky thread that Bira started :D) I have come up with a massive list of things that have been suggested. If you find something on this list, please don't suggest it again as we do know about it and are considering it. :)
This list is not exhaustive and is not intended as a feature set listing of any version to come.
The feature set for the next version (v3 aka Jupiter) has not been determined.

Forums Password-protected private forums
Threads in parent forum appear in subforum
Enable forums to have more than one parent.
Expand/collapse categories in forum view
Mark whole forums read
Check boxes for forums to include announcement in instead of all or one
Mass-moving of threads
Add new "forum" that is really just a link to something or somewhere else
Permission: Can view thread titles (on forumdisplay) but not threads
Threads/Posts Selective mass delete, move, close, edit posts
Checkbox in the new post page, to determine if the user wants to be redirected to his post or return to the parent forum.
Checkbox in the new post page, to turn off vB code in that post only (similar to Disable Smilies option).
Checkbox for thread to automatically appear in multiple forums, all are updated as users post to them. When moving or deleting such a thread, should be able to choose if this should affect all, several, or just one of the copies.
Copy already posted thread and have both places (or multiple places) updated when new posts are made to any of them (as in prev. suggestion for new threads)
Finish post later - save in temporary place in database for later retrieval & finishing ('draft' mode if you will)

View count is unique - if a user views a thread 100 times he is only counted 1 time
Add checkbox to postbit to allow for checking certain posts to split off (these are passed to split routine when option is selected)
Minimum number of characters in post
When closing a thread, present a text box to give a reason why it is being closed and choose to deliver that to thread starter (?) via PM or email.
Preview for a editing a post.
When editing a post, present a text box to give a reason why you edited the post. This could be displayed next to the 'Edited by XXX on YYY' line.
Thread prefixes: unlimited, and set per forum (but cascading like forum permissions). Set for each thread via a drop down list when posting.
Email Email digests
New tab for ALL email options and functions (including subscribed threads)
Subscription to Threads/Forum WITHOUT Receiving e-mails
Email notification of upcoming events
Auto-turn off email notification for users who have x bounced messages (would prob require a dedicated server for bounce checking)
Attachments Attach mulitple files at once
Preview-safe attachments - Currently, when attaching a file to a message, if you click on "preview", the file attachment field is cleared, apparently due to a limitation of the way the file upload HTML field works. If instead there is a check box, similar to that for polls, then the file attachment could be specified after the message has been completed and previewed
Ability to add when editing a post instead of just when creating
Attachment management (search, mass-delete, etc.)
Permissions: Can view attachments, separate from can view threads
PMs Preview PM before Sending
Search in My PM Folders
Preview for a new PM.
Integrating Tracking with the Regular Folders
User Selectable Default Options Status - The checkboxes at the bottom -- 'request read receipt' and 'keep copy of sent item' -- as well as the "view number of days" *and* the default entry folder (currently inbox) should be user selectable.

Link forum messages to calendar - Post a message in a forum and check a box that would cause it to also appear on the calendar. After clicking submit, you would be prompted for the date(s) where it should appear. When someone visits the calendar and clicks on the link, they would be shown the message or a link to it

Polls
Polls with 0 votes for a certain option should have 0 graph bar; the graph bar should be more accurate.
Ability to post a poll AFTER a thread had started
Poll results ordered by most to less voted
Option that user must reply to the thread before he can vote
Option for users to see who voted for which option (public vote)
Make time a poll is open similar to announcements creation - "from xxx date to yyy date" instead of "x days"
Make option that *you* voted for in bold/italics/somehow highlighted when viewing results
Admin-created polls on main forum page
Poll moderation (like new thread moderation)
