the site vbulletin is being used on, uses the software as a discussion board between students. And right now I'm working on archiving discussions (threads) from the previous school year.

There are some confusing things, I must mention. First of all when I go to "move thread" I looked at the list of the forum names (i'm moving all threads) and I created a forum in my archive with the exact same name. And both appear as "yellow class" in my selection menu. :( You should have the selects appear with an heirarchy. like when deciding which forum a forum should use as a parent forum. (does that make sense? sorry if it doesn't.)

The URL is here:
Virtual Class: Discussions (http://www.learntoquestion.com/vclass/discussion2/index.php)

the second one is more like a bug, a minor one though. I included a screen shot. The emptied forum still has a "last post by" link. And of course this link doesn't work. :(

and yes I did update my counters, hence the "0" (zeroes) in the post/thread counts. :)

I hope you guys can fix this. ;)

btw, it's version 2.03

*bump

sorry, just wanted to make sure this thread stays alive. a link like this could easily confuse students (users of our board) they're not necessarily tech savvy.......

oops. didn't realize, this thread was moved. :p

i noticed there is finally a way to mass prune members in the new vb release, and i have several thousand i want to get rid of. If i try to get rid of more than about 550 at once, i get an error. There are various types of errors i recieve - depending on how many members i am attempting to delete, and what browser i use.

IE:
deleting 787 members
javascrpt error: Invalid pointer
When it does the first page of work it just stops with that error instead of redirecting

deleting 500 members
no error, but doesn't redirect (just sits on the first page)

deleting 242 members worked fine

Opera:
Deleting 500 members - works fine
Deleting 621 members - 2nd page of Updating threads and posts for users contains only this html:

<html><head>
<META content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" http-equiv="Content-Type">
<link rel="stylesheet" href="../cp.css">
</head>
<body leftmargin="10" topmargin="10" marginwidth="10" marginheight="10">
</BODY></HTML>

Deleting 750 members - got this error on 1st page of updating threads and posts:

Database error in vBulletin Control Panel: Invalid SQL: SELECT userid,username FROM user WHERE userid IN(1476,1817,...lots more ###s here...,2191,1830%) LIMIT 0,50
mysql error: You have an error in your SQL syntax near ') LIMIT 0,50' at line 1
mysql error number: 1064
Date: Tuesday 21st of August 2001 07:02:43 AM
Script: /admin/user.php?action=prune_updateposts&startat=0&userids=1476%2C1817...lots more of therse here...2C2191%2C1830%
Referer: http://www.mysite.com/admin/index.php?

i've also seen an error where it tells me i need to enter my login info in the middle of the prune... probably from deleting a few thousand people in one go. (not 100% sure)

i don't need "support" or anything, just want to know if everyone else gets these errors or it's just my crappy proxy/firewall/host/browser/hacked vbulletin/whatever

It sounds like a bug...like the URL is too long to be passed with 500+ user IDs in it...

well if you think it might be a bug, perhaps you could move it to the bug report section so it gets fixed in the next version? gotta get rid of all my old members some time...

I can confirm there is a problem since I tested this today.

and furthermore, if you copy and paste the javascript url into your address bar it has this funny habbit of deleting admins

one of the admins at ina-community (50,000+ members) did this and deleted a few main admins. i'm glad to see you guys can actually admit when there's a bug..

oh, btw, i filled in my license info, losers

Is there a quick code hack fix for this that you can share with us?

No I am afriad that it is not a quick code hack, but rather more complicated.

It is in this next version that will be ready very soon.

John - what kind of time frame are we talking about for the fix?

I'm working on pruning some old users and it seems to be limiting me to deleting about 50 at a time, even though it allows me to select 100's at a time. Some of the selected users simply don't get deleted.

Sometime in the next couple days.
