switching from phpbb

hello. i'm going to be switching over from phpbb soon and am wondering if i can set up vb somewhere and get it all figured/configured before doing the switch? basically have a test forum up and running for a while to get the visuals worked out. is this possible? if so, what do i need to do? thanks in advance.

Yes, it's possible. What you could do is create a temp directory like "forums_temp" or whatever, then install vBulletin there like you would normally (create a database, enter right information to access it in config.php). You can then configure it to what you need to do, and then import your phpBB forum.

Once done, everything is set, and the transfer goes well, you could delete your old installation and then rename the directory to your permanent one. Just make sure to update your Member's Area with the correct URL information, and make sure that your vBulletin settings (Site Name / URL / Contact Details) and a few other things match up with the new location.
