to upgrade from 3.5.5 to 3.6.8 all I need to do is download the current 3.6.8 Patch Level 2 - and that will have all the appropriate instructions to upgrade from my current level.

In other words I do not need to downloads all of the versions between 3.5.5 and 3.6.8 Patch Level 2???

thanks

Correct; the upgrade process will go through all versions from your current to the latest stable when you run upgrade.php. :)

so I uploaded and everything went fine - well so I think. The problem it says the version is still 3.5.5 , but the script said I finished 5 steps of the upgrade so should I see 3.6.8 as my latest version???

If you upgraded from 3.5.5 to 3.6.8, there should have been a lot more than just 5 steps in the upgrade.

You didn't do all of the steps then. If you downloaded the latest stable version, then ran upgrade.php, it should've run through all the versions between your current one to the latest stable.

I thought it was too fast :D.

Is there any problem running it again?

BTW - I did change the config file that said 3.6.8 in it. I guess it just never got that far?

I just reread your first post. If you are upgrading to 3.6.8, you actually need to download the files for 3.6.8 and for 3.6.8PL2. The 3.6.8 package has all the php files you need for your upgrade. Put those files on your site and do an upgrade. Then, PL2 just had two or three files and you just upload those to your site like normal with no upgrade script running needed.

Actually, the latest download IS version 3.6.8 PL2 and it should contain ALL the files you need to upgrade from 3.5.5 to 3.6.8 PL2 in the one package.

You may have had a problem with the upload. Try uploading the non-image files again. Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Then try running Upgrade again.

You might also check Suspicious File Versions from the AdminCP.

thanks - it worked, but as I stated it only went through 5 steps. I will look at it again and give it another shot.

When you execute the upgrade.php make sure on the top left side it says

vBulletin 3.6.8 Upgrade System
& on the top right side it says

XML File Versions:
vbulletin-style.xml 3.6.8
vbulletin-settings.xml 3.6.8
vbulletin-language.xml 3.6.8
vbulletin-adminhelp.xml 3.6.8
I think you're uploading the installer script from 3.5.5 & that's why everytime it's just updating the style, settings, language & adminhelp in 5 steps.

thanks that was the exact problem. It was pointing to the wrong upgrade :o

now of course GOdaddy changed my SQL access password so I get a denied permission when I try to upgrade, but at least I am on the right track now.

Thanks for your help.

Ok I finally figured it all out. Funny a lower case "r" versus a upper case "R" makes a world of difference.

On a bad note I got the following message
vBulletin 3.6 requires PHP version 4.3.3 or greater. Your PHP is version 4.3.11, please ask your host to upgrade.

So now I need to ask for an upgrade.

At least I am moving forward...

thanks all

Sweet eveything is working. Switched to Linux servers and I am very happy. Email works and the Admin page even shows the version I am on and if there are any updates.

With using Linux I realize how sloppy I become with case sensitive stuff. I had to make a few changes, but luckily I am well organized so it wasnt that bad.

Next step is to do the upgrade, but I feel confident now it will work.

Live and learn....
