mission statement: Suggest a good dedicated host for the following site. 2500+ members approx 400 check in every day. Approx av is 50 online. Max online was 130.

What sort of spec should my server have as a minimum, and a maximum. Also which host do you recommend ?

for your traffic you should consider getting a dedicated server. 50 simultaneous is pushing the limits of a shared box. the two hosts i always recommend are:

http://www.f5hosting.com/ (smaller host, great support, fast servers, i don't think they have dedicated packages though)
and
http://www.venturesonline.com/ (time tested host around here, both shared and dedi packages, good all around, can't go wrong)
