Hi,
I have uploaded all the new files to upgrade from 3.6.7 to 3.6.8 LP2 and every thing was fine, but during the upgrade process when I clicked on the button "Next 5/5" I got this error, "500 Internal Server Error".

I've checked the forum and it's working except when I try to login to the AdminCP I get the same error again.

I tried to upload the new files again after that and went to the AdminCP and it worked!!! also it's showing the new version 3.6.8 LP2. So I tested the forum and did some tasks in the AdminCP, it seems to be OK!

My questions are :

1- I haven't disabled the 3rd-party hacks before the upgrade and some of them are old. Is that what caused the problem ?

2- I'm worried about that Step 5/5, what was in it? . Am I going to face some hidden problem in the future because I didn't run Step 5/5 ?

3- I'm thinking to run the upgrade again after I remove those hacks. I mean that the version of my forum now is 3.6.8 LP2 and I want to run the upgrade process again for the same version to make sure that I've done the upgrade completely. Is this OK or it's going to damage my forum ?

Thanks in advance.

What script is running when you get that error?

Actually, I don't remember
but you know what, I'm going to do the same scenario on my local server. I will install the 3.6.7 version and then upgrade it to 3.6.8 LP2 ... So I can know exactly what was the script in that step 5/5.

am I on the right track ?

Thanks

Ok, here we go

I've installed version 3.6.7 on the same server in a separate directory with a new database and then upgraded it to 3.6.8 PL2 to find out 3 things :

1- what was in step 5/5
2- what caused the problem of Error 500
3- what will happen if I run the upgrade again

It seems there was no script to run in that Step 5 as when I pause the courser on it it shows "All Done" and once I click on the button it takes me the AdminCP. ( See the attached picture )... but I need you guys to confirm that I'm right in this.

When I was trying to upgrade that test installation, I got the same error 500 during the process. So I've deleted every thing and started again but in the second time I've changed the way I upload the files always, I was uploading them in a compressed ".tgz" file then I decompress it on the server from the command line on the old files. But in the second time I've uploaded the files using the FTP client with the "Overwrite All" option. Then, I ran the upgrade script and it's done without any problem.
So, I assume that what caused the problem when I was upgrading my forum is the way I upload the files, I think it has something to do with files permissions

After that, I tried to run the upgrade script a second time just to see what will happen and it went OK, nothing got damaged and the forum was functioning properly.

So, what I will do now is that I will upload the files of 3.6.8 PL2 to my live forum using the "Overwrite All" option and run the upgrade again, Just to make sure that my forum is setup correctly. Please confirm if it's OK to do this.

Thanks

This will not cause any problems and is safe to do.
