Hi im thinking about buying vbulletin and making it into a pit bike forum but i need some help

1. im thinking about buying the leased version but dont know which is the best hositng server

That is your choice- GoDaddy and HostGator are good in my opinion. You can research this over at www.webhostingtalk.com (http://www.webhostingtalk.com)

2. how do you get v bulletin onto the hosting server

Using FTP software. FTP Software like CuteFTP or SmartFTP allows you to connect with your host server and push the files up or delete and copy the files.

3. will google adsese work with vbulletin

Works great, especially with vBulletin 3.7 which makes it a little easier to implement.

4. i run windows vista will everything be compatiable

Yes - The only compatibility issue would be that your FTP software was Vista compliant. I use Vista and SmartFTP . Works great!

i was thinking more of baby as 600gb sounds a good amount and so dose 6000gb bandwith

especailly for the start do you know how much a forum approximatley takes e.g a forum with 100 members then 200 members etc...

Your a star at giving advice thanks

You can start out with the baby croc and then uypgrade as you need more space/bandwidth.

It's really hard to guess....start with that package and then upgrade as you need it. Hostgator will notify you when they think you need to upgrade, you can bet on that.

il start with the smallest 1 then for now and then move up sounds like the best idea best to pay when we need it and not pay if we dont need it if you get me :)

do you know a cheap place to get a domain name ???

Thanks

I don't like to get my domain at the same place as my hosting plan. Gives me more leverage and choices.

I like to get my domains at GoDaddy.

Most likely, they are waiting on your domain name to propagate to DNS. This sometimes takes anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of days. Where did you buy the domain name?

and also i got the smart ftp client

hopefully theese are my final questions

1.where do i get my host and path information

Not sure what you mean here...I can help you setup your config.php file for HOSTGATOR- just PM me.

2. i gess my login and password is mine of gatorhost so i think i have that sorted
3. how do i get the vbulliten i downloaded onto the hosting

Actually you will download it from this vbulletin site, then you will upload it to your new host. You'll do that with your SmartFTP program after you have edited your config.php file and after you have setup your sql database on your host and after you have added a user to that newly added sql database.

4. And is it just automatically up after that

You will need to manually edit your config.php file before uploading it and run the install script to comlpete the install. This is well documented in the installation instructions that comes with the Vbulletin files when you download them.

if you could answer theese it would be great

Regards

James

vBulletin does offer installation for you. Might be worth the additional cost if you are not comfortable with installing.

First, it is against the license agreement to share your vB files with anyone.

Second, to get vB support on these forums you first need to be a licensed customer and register for Priority Forum Support. To do this, please go here:

http://members.vbulletin.com/membersupport_priority.php

...and enter your email address in one of the boxes. You'll need to have your customer number and password to access the page.

Once you've done this, please post in the appropriate support forum for your version.

Please follow the instructions in my post above. If you are a licensed customer this should be straightforward.
