Deleting threads is extremely slow

I've been using admincp/thread.php?do=prune option to delete 2,500 threads and it took 30 minutes with occasional "Database error" messages for end-users. Our vB database is 10 GB large.

Why does it take so much time?

How to delete complete sub forum with 20,000 threads faster and to avoid database error messages?

This is a combination of the server and the very large db table. There is no way to speed this up from within vB. You would have to optimize your server for the best possible performance.

I would also strongly recommend closing your forums while doing this.

I suppose switching to InnoDB would help for deleting, but hurt performance for reading later?
