test install

I don't have a test install yet and I'm changing stuff immediately in my forum.
This cause sometimes little errors for members.

Now I'm considering to install a test copy.
I've heard that it is accepted within the license.

My question is "can I install a test copy under another domain p.e. under a directory "testing"?"
I have a few more (empty) domains and do not want to mix the test copy in the directory of my original forum, but I'm not sure if this is possible.

Yes, you can install this on another domain. From the license agreement:

"If you have a valid license, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to us and our license verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it. It must not be accessible by the general public."
