I have 2 sites. The first was designed and hosted by a company. My new site is going to be hosted only. I purchased vbulletin because they said they could help with the installation. It's now installed and being hosted by them, but I don't have access to ANY files people are referring to throughout this site.
Where am I not looking, or what am I doing (did) wrong? Pls, Pls, Pls, help. Yes, I'm begging.:confused:
Thanks for any help, anyone can provide.:)

So you don't have ftp access to the site? Do you have the username and pass to the admin account of the vb install?

Thanks for your SWIFT reply...
I don't know what FTP is, so I can only say no I don't have access. I do however have access to the admin cp.

You need to contact your host regarding your FTP access.

Thank you for your reply as well. Just so I'm better equipped when I talk to my hosting company. Can you please explain (briefly if possible) to me what FTP access is and how it effects the scheme of things?:confused:
Thanks again for your help.

FTP = File Transfer Protocol
It is what you need to upload and download files to and from your server. You also need an FTP client. Some examples of these are smartFTP, FlashFXP and cuteFTP although there are many different ones available some of which are free or have free trials and others which are commercial (some are very expensive too!)

:eek: I'm trying not to fall on the ground like a toddler, but I'm headed there. How can I tell if I have a FTP client already? Does Windows XP Home Edition come with it? If so, where can I look?
Thanks again for holding my hand through this. I have so much respect for children at this time.;)

You wont have one by default. You will need to download one and install it.
The screenshots in the vBulletin manual are of the smartFTP program. Personally I prefer FlashFXP (on windows) or CyberDuck (on mac osx).
You can find one by searching for FTP program or FTP client and then finding one that you like the look of from the results. They are all slightly different, so it is a case of finding one that you like the look of and that you think you will be comfortable with using.

Good to hear that you are feeling better. As a precaution, do not try to do too much with ftp program, if you dont know php/mysql etc. Most of the regular stuffs can be done from admincp. And make sure that you have a plan for database backup.
