View Full Version : config.php.new or config.php

I have successfully uploaded vbulletin to my virtual server, and every thing is happening exactly as it should, but I have hit a wall because of one little thing.
In the “include” folder, I cannot find config.php.new or config.php any where at all and thus I cannot rename it config.php and edit it for the name and password of the database I have set up for my vbulletin.
So until I find that config.php, there is nothing I can do.
You can see that I have partially set it up http://forums.sovin-nai.org/

in the downloaded zip of beta 2 (entire package) within includes there is a file called config.php.new, edit it and change it to config.php.
Can i also point out you don't need to upload anything outside of the upload folder.

are you downloading the entire beta 2 package?
Also joomla files shouldn't be in there.

Use the 3.7.0 beta 2 config.php.new file.
Rename it to config.php
and edit it's content to match the database you're using.

I have got that config.php now that I installed joomla, joomla was for the home page and the forums was for a sub domain so I do not know why the joomla php was in the sub domain.
Well I do not know why vbulletin cannot put up an ui interface. So working with this raw data, I put in my database user name and password. But I'm confused about the database. My database is called ham8phuw_forums. so i put it in place of ['dbname'] > (['ham8phuw_forums']) but I get this
“Not Found
The requested URL /install/install.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an Error Document to handle the request.”
Then I tried whole address such as h tt p://forums.sovin-nai.org/ham8phuw_forums in ['dbname'] with no luck.
(http was spaced to prevent auto hyperlinking)

Oh damn, do I have to put in my entire address?? like h ttp://forums.sovin-nai.org/ham8phuw_forums/ into the ['dbname'] section? When I tried that I get safari cannot open the window even thought it is just editing
Or did you mean entire address for the install/install.php??

I have had it for tonight, will get back to this tomorrow. I'm getting this when I try to save my edited config.php
afari can’t open the page “http://www.mango-hosting.co.uk:2082/frontend/x3/filemanager/savefile.html”. The error was: “unknown error” ((null):10053) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Help menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

no you need not enter you url in any folder or file but be sure that url is correct when you are browsing it with /install/install.php

this is cpanel so you need to ask from your host about this error.

You're replacing the variable names. Your information goes to the right of the equal signs within the single quotes. NEVER change anything to the left of the equal signs.

Yes I realized that mistake and made corrections. This is just some of the additions I made, left out password for obvious reasons. This is how it looks.

Everything seems to point to an url problem. I have a feeling that is all there is to it.
Www.forums.sovin-nai.org (http://www.forums.sovin-nai.org/) shows that it has been uploaded. So I tried full path including directory http://www.forums.sovin-nai.org/public_html/forums/upload/install/intall.php and it does not work as it says url is not found. It just this one tiny little problem <smiles>

Just to make sure you all know the kind of server I'm using. I'm using a virtual server.

Verify this value with your hosting provider:
$config['MasterServer']['servername'] = 'localhost';
If you are using a large provider that doesn't use cPanel or Plesk this could very well be something different. On GoDaddy and its resellers the servername will be something like 123pmysql24.secureserver.net. On Yahoo, the servername is always mysql. Others can employ similar setups.

Im with mango-hosting.com and have cpanel, however I will ask them via e-mail to verify server name.
Will post back here tomorrow.

Roja1 is correct regarding my problem :)
Been trying sovin-nai.org/forums/install/install.php which was wrong, becasue upload was inside forums folder but this time I renamed the upload folder to forums.
should have been sovin-nai.org/forums/install/install.php
Thanks for all of your help, at least I know better now for next time.
