Hacking / Plugins
While there have not been extensive changes to the underlying architecture of vBulletin 3.7 from 3.6, it is possible that certain hooks may have changed. Therefore you should check with the author of whatever plugins and products to attach to your vBulletin installation to inquire about their compatibility with vBulletin 3.7.

Plugin authors are advised to wait for the first release candidate before adapting their plugins to work with 3.7, though there is of course no harm in testing for compatability now.

That's quite a bit of double talk. Geezzzz.

My point is that you tell people to check plug ins and then tell the devs don't fix it. What a great testing scenario.

The latest stable version is still 3.6.8 PL2 as 3.7 is still in beta stages so shouldn't be used on live forums unless you are willing to risk everything ;).

However its under "more options" in the member download area for your active license :). If your license is not active, you may have to renew (costs 30 dollars for an addition years worth of upgrades).

Don't need to do that... just change the settings and you should be fine. Look in my.ini of your configuration, and change:

default-table-type=innodb
to:

default-table-type=myisam

then, drop that database, restart your mysql server, and it should work... I think. :X

Edit: important - do not drop the database if you are upgrading and encountering the same problem. You will lose all your old data like that.

That's not true. Go check out the announcement threads for the 3.6 betas. Template changes are included in all of them.

That's also very confusing for the vast majority of our customers (that don't use betas). Don't expect a list until a stable release.

What we usually do at vb china is compare the English XML's to get a diff list, and then merge them into our Chinese XML, and then trasnlate the missing phrases in Chinese XML.

It makes sense to me, tough

If I fix all my mods/hacks for vb 3.7 beta 2, and then they release beta 3 and I found that, again, all my mods are not working, I would not be very happy or willingly to fix the mods again... just to find that in beta 4 they *might* be broken again :)

However, it is necessary to test if the plugins work, so you can report to the mod developers the exact issues that are being seen and the behavior change / inconsistencies... so they can start working right away in the RC stage :)

I for one will be testing it on a database backup before I make the switch over. There are two modifications that I need to ensure work before making the switch & if they don't I'll spend a few hours to get them working.

I am sure that most license holders understand the risk of installing the beta on a live server, just as Jelsoft knows the risks and decided it was well worth it. It has been running on vBulletin.com without any major issues for the past several weeks now.

Most of the bugs are minor issues as the major bugs have already been found and fixed.

I would have to imagine that any plugins updated to work with the beta would work with the gold edition as well...unless a major template change comes around. I wouldn't expect that, as what we have now is pretty much what we are going to get with the exception of a few minor bugs being fixed.

Is there someway to get to the new phrases from 3.6.8 to 3.7.0? because I want to start translating them. Thanks!

What we usually do at vb china is compare the English XML's to get a diff list, and then merge them into our Chinese XML, and then trasnlate the missing phrases in Chinese XML.
what i have done right now is:

1. upload the languaje selecting ignore version option
2. find updated phrases and update them
3. rebuild the languaje

and all is working fine for me =)

For the most part, the version works quite well. There are some features on the ACP that aren't working right, but other than that, the installation and stability is pretty good. I could see this having a short BETA period.

You will most likely need to revert your USERCP and its related templates for the new features to come in. It is strongly recommended that you test with the default style, and start re-apply the changes to ensure that you don't lose the new features.

Yea, I wouldn't have recommended that option with your custom skin.

To update the templates one by one, you should see a notice on your main admincp page "Out-of-Date Custom Templates Found!" Click the link to view your out of date templates.

It will then give you a list of all the styles that need to be updated. Choose the one you wish to update.

What I do is open the template history and the edit template windows for each template that needs to be updated. You will need to do this one by one until your updates are complete.

Everything installed great, although the profile page looks messed up.

The footer is out of line and there is a problem with the bars (drop down menu). I don't have any extra css and reverted all template edits...

not sure if anyone else has the same problem.

Also would be great if the social groups were more public and easier to see from the homepage but i am sure some mod will deal with this.

Also, seems that the number of vbulletin blog postings dont show...

Installed without a hitch on my test site. Had 38 templates to revert but when I checked the list a lot were duplicates in several custom styles. So I removed the styles and that reduced the reverts to 22. Take away the templates hacks needed for Mystics Thread Prefix hack and it went down to 13. Not bad, all minor changes.

I only run vBa on my forum homepage and the only part that looked broken was the header, but that will fix when I put the custom edits back into the header template.

So now I know there is not too much work to do when 3.7 goes gold. I've had worse.

On a test server that I had 3.6.8, vbblog, and vbprojecttools already installed, doing an upgrade to 3.7.0 Beta 2 everything worked perfect.

On a second company server I had 3.6.8, and vbblog installed and did the 3.7.0 Beta 2 upgrade. Company bought the vbprojecttools add-on after the upgrade, and it won't install after 3.7.

Cheers for the info. I'll look into it more at a later date.

This might not be a bug, I could be just missing something, here's my problem. In the photo albums I have the settings in the AdminCP at the default 1024 by 724 (i think) Anyway when you go to upload into the albums it says that the maximum size allowed is 600 X 600 I can not figure out how to change this. When I uploaded a picture that was 710 in width it was automatically resized to 600 even though in the Admin CP it's set to allow pictures even bigger. What am I missing here?

Album sizes are separate from attachments. The maximum size for Album pictures is a Usergroup Permission and is set under Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager. Edit each usergroup that you want to allow larger images for.

There are great changes.
But could you please add the automatic [ img ] bbcode generation after adding new Picture for User Picture Galleries.

We need it so much ,using the gallery for uploading picture and posting it into anywhere, any posts, not only the attachments system just for each post!

Thank you!

Hello ,

Very nice vbulletin product :) ,

I was update my live forum , evry thing is OK without any problem for now ,

I need to ask about ,

Post Edit History

where can i found this option ,

User Change History

where can i found this option also ,

Thank
Regards

Yeah I am looking for those currently as well.

I found in vbulletin options, an option to change a setting if a user changes his username, you can set how long that username is not able to be used again by others (which is great) however I cant find the other settings as well lol

1- Just wondering if the switch back to requiring the need to click on the "quick reply" button before entering a quick reply was deliberate? I liked being able to reply without using it.

2- There's currently about 25 bugs fixed since the release on Monday .. which of the 3 situations does Jelsoft do:

a) The fixes are applied on the member area download version immidiately.

b) The fixes are applied on the dev board immidiately but are only applied on the member downloadable version a few times a day.

c) The fixes are applied on the dev board immidiately but are only applied on the member downloadable version once a day.

d) There are no changes in the downloadable version at all between versions like Beta 2 and Beta 3.

I realise that 25 bugs is actually a very small number considering most are minor and/or rare .. but it's still a large enough number for me to feel safer knowing many of them are already incorporated into the currently downloadable version even if its official release was before many of those bugs were fixed.

However, I can also understand for consistantcy why it wouldn't be updated between versions (unless obviously an announcement was made) .. but either way, I just wanted to know how it was handled so I could be best informed when making a decision to download the latest version.

Thanks! :)

1. That should still be an option in your AdminCP.

2. Generally fixes will only be available to customers with the next release. As always, we don't recommend you use beta versions on live forums, so it shouldn't be an issue.

1- Just talking about here on the vB.com site ... seems I don't remember this (terribly annoying .. lol) feature being on before? Or is it just because the bug tracker has it off and I'm just remembering half my posts there? lol

2- Yups .. I realised that .. would have only been for my test install .. but I still like to have a few senior members help me test it out .. and as such I'd like to know it's still relatively secure to the point where I'd follow the bug tracker and turn off the test forum if I see an issue that would give people access to things they shouldn't. Not the end of the world .. I don't expect it to be bug free .. just curious more than anything else so I can be as informed as possible when figuring out how to proceed with my testing! :)

Users cannot change their name. This is tracked when an Administrator changes a user's name for them.

That could be useful, but I'm pretty sure it could be done easily with only a simple template edit.

Project Tools doesn't even have an option for that. :) It's method of showing replies is different than on vBulletin I think.

i thought it will have more Ajax features
not so good and not worth to upgrade

AJAX isn't the all-be of a site, it's only there to enhance certain features. What were you looking for?

More ajax has been added. But where did you expect it would be added more?

AJAX overkill isn't always good, (most times isn't actually) - especially for big sites, it will make the server go crawl.

We also don't force you to upgrade, you can stick with 3.6 until 4.0 comes out and see if that's more what you were looking for.

Oh dear

I think you're being very subjective there. I think it's more than well worth the upgrade.

I dont like ajax at all. Users with "javascript" setting to off can't use site as they should suppose to do.

I preffer CSS tabs over it.

Still vBulletin support those without JavaScript just fine. It might be a bit long in terms of page scrolling and slow in the way some things are accessed, but overall I think vBulletin does a good job of it. :)

Ajax is a tool to achieve a certain goal; it is not, however, the goal to be achieved.

There are great changes.

Thank you!

Personally, we need more than just this.

I'd love to see an icon in the WYSIWYG editor that allows you to insert an image from your Vbulletin Albums. A little popup window opens some small thumbnails to all of your images where you can select from the images in your gallery and automatically links it.

The popup window might look like this.
