Does anyone have any minimal templates for vB? I'm a regular on VB-World (www.vbforums.com) and with 6 browser windows over 56K it blocks up pretty quickly :( Anyone who's been in Chit Chat over there will notice that it might as well be a realtime IRC channel :D
Anyway, is there any way to really cut the page size down? Has anyone done this before? John's not been online (or he's blocked me on ICQ :p) for a while so I'm asking here instead.

Well, two things to double-check are making sure gzip is installed and working and use this tip from Kier (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17943). :)

vbforums looks to me like they are using a stripped down version of vBulletin as is. They appear to have gotten rid of at least one layer of the nested tables.
I would like to support, though, the idea of providing a minimal set of styles, as vBulletin's default set is so customized to this particular look. If you want anything much different, for example, to not use the page-on-a-page look, a lot of deleting of markup is needed. I'd rather build up from something more generic.
BTW, if you used Opera as your browser, you could click a button and switch to own minimalist style sheet. Comes in very handy. I get a very plain but completely functional rendering of those forums with my three line user styles sheet. :) Add to that another click of a button to only reload images from cache and the site is downright speedy.

Well, if it's stripped down from the norm then it looks like some of my prodding over ICQ got John to listen :) He normally ignores me because I'm an idiot and I like causing trouble on his forums...
