Hi all,
I need help with htaccess, please help me out.
How do i set htaccess file so they have to go to the portal before visiting the forum?
Even if user know the direct link to the forum (vbulletin.com/forum), when they enter that in to the forum it will redirect them to vbulletin.com/portal
and once they on the portal they can click on the link (Community) will take them to the forum.
I try allow and deny in htaccess but it doesn't seem to work.
Please help

I am no expert, but you can't suddenly force people visiting
www.yoursite.com/forums/ (http://www.yoursite.com/forums/)
to
www.yoursite.com/ (http://www.yoursite.com/)
and then allow them to access www.yoursite.com/forums/ (http://www.yoursite.com/forums/) when they click community.
The only way I know how to accomplish what you want to do is to keep the redirect for www.yoursite.com/forums/ (http://www.yoursite.com/forums/) to www.yoursite.com (http://www.yoursite.com) to force your users through the portal page, and then rename your vbulletin folder to something other than forums.
HOWEVER, there are reasons why one would want to avoid doing this on an established forum or large board. You potentially give up search engine rankings, search engine traffic will stop, and any links to your forum will lead incoming visitors to a page that is no longer at the same place. VERY BAD.
I could be mistaken, but you could learn more about rewrites and do a permanent rewrite for all www.youriste.com/forums/ (http://www.youriste.com/forums/showthread) URLs but you need to rewrite all of the URLS except for the main forum page since you will redirect that one to the portal.
I am not an expert so do some more research and I invite anybody to correct me for that reason. Hopefully this helps you begin your research and others will chime in with more info.
