View Full Version : Easiest host to move sites

I know this is a redundant thread but I'd like the best answer for me.

I'd check my site stats, but the site is down  And I'd contact the host but their site is down as well for the second time today.

My site has about:
2500 members
100,000 posts
Usually gets between 50-150 users on at a time
Membership growth will be limited
Uses a couple gigs of disk space from photopost pics (which also has db errors after the server was hacked..for the second time)

I'm limited in my computer skills. I'd like the easiest host to transfer from the current host to. It's grown absolutely intolerable. In the beginning they rocked. Now, after an ownership change there are long and frequent inexplicable outages, answers come slow and often unintelligible from countries where english isn't the primary language, and it's really hurting my site.

Who has done a migration and what is the company best suited to help someone with limited server knowledge do the move on a site this size?

Thanks

Your site's stats are pretty similar to a couple we manage at HostMonster. If you're not doing anything fancy or server-intensive like flashchat, you can probably get away using a shared host environment like that. We've got hosting accounts there and at GoDaddy for one of our bigger clients who needed a dedicated option.

The moves and migration are pretty simple and if you've got shell access at both places, you can use something like NaviCat to transmit directly from SQL server to SQL server without worrying about your own connection speed. We did that about two weeks ago and moved a nearly 200Mb database between webhosts in about 10 minutes.

It's just a matter of getting your config file setup on the new host with the appropriate information and importing your database to your new server. PM me if you'd like more details on the various moves and any issues that arose.
