View Full Version : Moving data from phpBB forum to new vB forum, two different domains

On domain1 I'm using a phpBB forum. On domain2 I've created a new vBulletin forum.
I'm trying to move all the data from domain1's forum to domain2's forum.
I'm preparing to install Impex and working on the config file now.
Would it be easier to create a phpbb forum at domain2, move the database from domain1 to domain2, then edit the config file to upload the information?
Thoughts?

Yes, move the phpBB database (you don't have to move the phpBB php files, just the database) to domain2 and restore it.
So the source and target databases are on the same server.

I did just that. I created a new forum, moved the db from domain1 to domain2, edited the config file for impex, and then thru the CP imported all the modules. For the most part it went smoothly and successfully.
However, whenever I refresh the forum it still appears as new, empty forum.
Thoughts?

Please follow the 'After the Import' instructions here:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_cleanup
This should solve those issues.

Ok, deleted the impex files and the forum still doesn't show anything.
In the cp, all of my users are listed, but they are not appearing in the forum itself.
Also, it appears that the topics' module was imported, but nothing appears, even in the cp.

Did you follow all of the instructions?
I believe so, but if you feel that I'm missing one (or two) please feel free to suggest something.

It's in the instructions but easily missed.
You need to select
'Forums & moderators' - 'Forum manager'
Then click the button saying 'Save display order'
BTW - if you manage to get the avatars importing could you let me know.

Things are getting better. Thanks for the suggestions.
Any suggestions on why the icons (suggest as Forum Contains New Posts) are not showing? All are red X's.

Nevermind. This has been fixed. For some reason not all of the image files transfered.
Time to remove the vB logo now. I'll do a search first as I'm sure this has been brought up before.

Upload your logo to the images directory then change the location of your forum logo here:
Admin CP -> Styles & Templates -> Style Manager -> style name -> Style Vars (in the All Style Options drop-down menu) -> Images Paths -> Title Image

Yep, already fixed. Thanks!
All I need to do now is restore the smilies that came with the vb forum, but I already created a new thread for that one.
