View Full Version : Importing vbulletin to another domain

What I'm trying to do is to only move a couple of forums from my vbulletin (ver 3.6.7 PL1) message board to another vbulletin message board (v3.6.8 PL2) on another domain. I don't need the users, attachments, private messages, etc. I just need a couple of forums with all of their threads and posts.
I thought I might try to use the Import System to do this. I have it installed on my source vbulletin board and targeting the target domain. I thought it was running fine - I got through the different levels of importation without any error messages. But at the end nothing happened.
I checked the target message board, nothing. No new threads or postings listed. No new forums.
Going back to the Admin Panel on the source board, it remained static after importing step 13 "the smilies". Was it supposed to do anything? Are the imported files somewhere on the target message board, but I don't see them? This took a few hours this morning and I'd hate to think I wasted my time :)
Any guidance would be appreciated.

You cannot import forums and posts without importing the users and usergroups for those posts. You also cannot do a partial import.
What did you do exactly?

I guess I screwed up :p
I went step by step during the import phase, but skipped some of the processes like users, etc. I'll give it another go tomorrow and try each item

Okay, I gave it another shot with no success. It seems to be importing into itself instead of to the other server. This is what I did:
Uploaded the Imp system files as per instructions to the source server. The config file is modified to reflect the proper source and target data bases.
I opened the Dialogue box to commence the import. Clicked step one: no prob - completed. Clicked step two: associate users, and like I mentioned before, I'm not interested in bringing in the users, but I went through the motions clicking "continue" for each page but not associating them with any number.
When I got to step 4 - import User, I received an ominous "page cannot be displayed" page  Clicked back and it read "Redo Module" as if it had done something.
Step 5 &6 : fine
Step 7 Import posts: It seemed to go fine for a while, but then there were a massive amount of error messages toward the end.
Step 8; No prob
Step 9: Private messages - took a looong time. Seemed to go fine until what I thought would be the end became 25k error messages. "failed on forum userid"
all the rest went okay (except import smilie)
And then it's done - or what? Nothing to indicate that it was finished. I went to the target domain. No evidence anywhere that anything had been imported. I checked the source board - it was closed (of course) but on the main page most if not all the forums had been duplicated. I also have a plugin that reminds people to post with a message "Hi user name, it seems you have never posted in our forum, blah blah blah." Well now I was receiving this message even though I have over 10,000 posts :p
I've uploaded a screenshot of the import results. Any ideas what's up? Thanks!
