Posts in Private Forum showing in Today's Posts?

How do I eliminate posts from showing up in Today's Posts? The posts I want to eliminate from the search feature were made in a private forum. I don't want these posts to show up as the result of any search.

They only show if you have permission to view that forum. The search is based off your permissions.

Wouldn't that mean that I would have to eleminate all usergroups from viewing the private forum?

If a user can view the forum, why wouldn't they be able to search that forum?

There is an option when editing each forum under the forum manager that will remove forums from the search. However if a user doesn't have permission to view the forum, they can't search it. Set "Index New Posts in Search Engine" to no.

It's a private forum. CP options: Forum is Active = No and Index New Posts in Search Engine = No. Yet, anybody can go to http://www.cpowa.org/forums click on Today's Posts and they will see whatever has been posted in the private forum. You don't even have to be registered.

What am I missing that's causing the problem?

This is not possible if the permissions are set correctly and you have not installed any add-ons or modifications.

Check the overall Usergroup permissions:

Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit Usergroup

And the Forum permissions for each forum and Usergroup:

Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Permissions

I changed the Usergroup options on the private forum and rebuilt the indexes. Threads/Posts in the private forum no longer appear in Today's Posts.

There's still a loop hole in this setup though, because anybody can get to the private forum by entering the URL in the command line. It looks like password protecting the forum itself is going to be the highest level of security that I can achieve.

Again they would not be abvle to access that forum - even with the direct link - if the permissions are set correctly and you have not installed any add-ons.

I (CPOWA.org) are as new as one can get to vBulletin software! No add-ons are installed.

Please help me understand what permission(s) I'm not setting?

For example: If I only want userID's Fred and Nita, who are 2-of-many members of Registered Users, to be able to access the private forum, what options would I have to set to allow ONLY those 2 members of that usergroup access to the private forum?

You se the apprropriatwe Forum permissions for each forum and Usergroup here:

Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Permissions

Note: When multiple usergroups are involved, a 'Yes' permission always overides a 'No' permission if 'Allow Users to have Member Groups ' is set to 'Yes' for the Primary group.
