the "word" table

What is the purpose of the "word" table in the vB db? Can i safely delete it and keep vB working w/o problems (disabling some features of course)? How?

As others have stated, you should remove the word table itself or you will have to modify alot of the vBulletin code. If you don't need and use the search feature, and you want to save disk space, then you can disable the search feature through the control panel, then run these queries to empty the search, searchindex and word tables:

DELETE FROM search;
DELETE FROM searchindex;
DELETE FROM word;

You'll make that up easy after a while of usage... unless you start pruning old posts.
