View Full Version : Best hosting options for a small size VB?

When I read the posts about hostings, I see that people are talking about VB including 1000s of members with an average of 100s posts being sent every day.

I want to use my VB only as a data base for answering questions. Actually a VB is not the most suitable thing for this purpose but I want to use it as a temporary tool to test out the whole idea till when I can have some one to make a customised database for me.

So for instance, it will not that people will send posts when ever they want and keep debating on issues.

The whole format will be like this:

The VB only allows around 10 questions to be posted per week. Once I answer these questions, the question and the answer will be posted as one thread and then the thread will be locked. So the thread will not be open for any further posts and it can only be viewed. Threads will be going under appropriate forums or subforums.

So imagine, at most, there will be a total of 10 threads per week added to the forum, each thread containing ONLY 2 posts. Of these 20 posts, 10 are my own answers. I will also upload some articles as a single thread, again with no possibility to add any post to these threads.

Given such a light activity, when it comes to servers I do not like to pay too much for something that I really do not need.

I know there are free hosts, but then again the security and reliability of the host is very important for me.

So my question for more experienced VB users is:

What are my options for such a "light" use of VB? (A friend for instance is using LunarPages, the simplest package is £3.99 per month. It gives you
350 GB Storage and 3500 GB Bandwidth ). Does this seem appropriate for the purpose or are better options available?

Thanks for your time.

3500 gb storage and 3500 gb of bandwith ?????? that's more then i have and i'm dedicated i pay a hell of allot more then the price you mentioned. This means lunarpages is an overseller and you should avoid that host you would also not be the first who runs into problems running vBulletin on a lunarpages account and there support will force you to upgrade to a higher plan even if that is not really needed they will also always blame vBulletin as the cause of server troubles (high loads etc) no avoid lunarpages a shared hostgator $9.95 a month will do what you wanna do

We do not offer 3500 Gb bandwidth on our Dedicated Server as well. Go through their TOS for more details. Hopefully you will find more information over there.
