View Full Version : Sick of Lunarpages, need a host...

I'm looking for a reliable webhost. The downtime with Lunarpages over the past 12 months has been obscene.

As for statistics, I have 10-15 simultaneous users at peak hours. It's a small community. Obviously, I don't need much.

My installation of VB doesn't have much in the way of mods. VBAdvanced, gItemStats, and a skin. Wouldn't take long for me to re-install somewhere else. However, in addition to a hosting recommendation, could someone tell me how I'd move all of the users/posts to the new board?

I appreciate any time and suggestions given.

Have you try HostGator? What's the current traffic going through? Would a small dedicated server be enough?

Your best bet for such a small community is to get a shared account, unless security is a concern and/or you're customizing the backend, then get a VPS (no less than 256MB, 384MB+).

Dedicated would be too much money and work to maintain for less than 100 members.

Check the webhost boards for offers, webhostingtalk.com has a vendor forum, and just search their customer service history there. It's a good way of checking who's who, and who to avoid (not 100% accurate, as there's plenty of, "me too" types there, but it's a starting point).

Just stay away from "unlimited bandwidth" type webhosts, there's no such thing. Unmetered isn't unlimited, for example, and you'll pay dearly for unmetered anyway.

LP costs me about $7/month. I'm looking for something $10/month or less. Shared hosting is fine.

Hostgator is good.
ASmallOrange is great, if you don't need much space.
