Hello,

My forum is 1 week old and i found out that the person i hired to install the forum for me used a pirated version of the forums(3.6.8 language completely modified), when i found out i came here and bought the legit version (3.6.8.P1)

now the site is already running and we already have about 140 members and i don't want to lose them. still i would like to apply the new files.

what i would like to do is...overwrite the files already on the server problem is i have no clue what should i do exactly without screwing up what we already have.

if someone would please guide me through this on a step-by-step guide on how to do this.

P.S. the version of the forum i have is in another language and not in English, so am thinking maybe overwrite the files and then apply a language add-on. will this have any impact on the process ?

thanks and very appreciated please try to make a dummies guide as this is my first time dealing with forums. but am very good with following steps. thank you again.

Since the pirated files are not supported by us we can't tell you why it won't work .. most likely because they customized it - screwing with the functionality of vBulletin.

What might be an option is that if you installed say, 3.6.7 and now use the 3.6.8pl1 files that you didn't run upgrade..

It totally depends on the errors you are getting.

Upload the legitimate file and replace the illegal ones.

No, it will not affect the database or any data. Just make sure you upload the same vB version that you are running.

Download vBulletin > (x) More OPtions > Download 3.6.8 (not the pl1)

And overwrite the 3.6.8 pirated files with 3.6.8 legal files

And you're done.

Add this to your config.php below the <?php tag:

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

This will turn off debug mode, so any products/plugins are shut off and you should have a working vBulletin.

Hello,

i would like to know how to install VB forums on an existing database,
the version i use 3.6.8, the version am trying to upgrade to is 3.6.8 P1.
i don't want to apply the patch i want a clean installation over an existing database.

A clean installation means: 0 threads, 0 posts, 0 privmsgs, 0 users, 0 forums.
You can do this by making either a new database, or remove the vBulletin tables from the old database first. (if you use the same database for other software like a blog or wordpress or guestbook make sure you don't delete those tables!)

A fresh install means you start over at 0% and install vBulletin to a 100% new installation. You have a clean forum with 1 user as admin who can set up forums, etc.

An upgrade means you update an existing forum with forums/members/threads/etc from version old to the latest version. You do this by uploading the latest files and run the upgrade script.

Instructions on installing vBulletin or upgrading vBulletin and how to backup your files and database, can be found in the manual: http://www.vBulletin.com/docs/html
