 Just bought the software a few days ago. Got setup with a web hosting service, uploaded all of the files... but when I go to execute the "install.php" script, this is what I get in the browser window:

--------------------------------------------

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

------------------------------------------

I called the host and they said everything is fine on their end.

I don't even know where the friggin "error log" is...

Can anyone help?

The error log is on the server. Only your host can access it. Ask them to look at it to see what the problem is.

Yes, the error log is on the server... but nothing is getting logged.

Still wondering if someone can help.

Neither the customer support lines at my host server nor vBulletin (yes, I paid for the phone support) can figure out the problem.

Honestly the error is pretty clear. Something on the server is stopping this script from running and whatever happened is contained in the server logs. If your host is unable or unwilling to check these log, then they are either not very competent in running servers or they have no interest in helping you.

The only way we could help is if you provided root access to this server, which I doubt your host would be willing to so.

Yes, I believe that they are not very competent. I got the vBulletin software to finally install... YEAH!! BUT I HAD TO FIGURE IT ALL OUT ON MY OWN. I'm fairly new to all of this, but I think I know more than some of their tech support folks!

www.startlogic.com (http://www.startlogic.com) - don't sign up with them.

Maybe you should also explain what you did, if other people run into the same problems... ;)

It was actually pretty simple, once I stepped back and started to think about what was going on.

I figured that since I could not get the install script to run... maybe... just maybe that file (or some associated file) had gotten corrupted in the transfer.

Soo... not knowing which file may be bad, I deleted everything from the server, re-uploaded a fresh copy from my HD and ran the script. BOOM... everything kicked right in.

When I was on the phone with one of the tech support people, I mentioned something might possibly be corrupted. They told me that it is such a rare occasion for that to happen that I should not be concerned about it. This was after they had looked at the files and concluded everything was fine.

I guess it just goes to show... start with the most simple. I had an electronics instructor in college that always hammered into our heads, the first thing you always check is the power supply.
