This is great... I love their CGI resources section, now we have one for PHP! BTW, when you are browsing the site, make sure you rate vBulletin, it is listed there :)

Here's the link: http://php.resourceindex.com/detail/00241.html

HotScripts is 20 times as useful as the Resource Index...no doubt about it.

Well, I hope you have room for one more - I'm working on a script resource directory myself right now. :)

Off subject: if anyone is interested in working with me on it, feel free to contact me: chris@movieforums.com

I think I'll stick with hotscripts for now :D

Heck even I, the soon-to-be-rival-site-owner-of-HotScripts can admit that they have the market cornered and are the definitive resource... :) I just hope I'll be able to compete...even if only a little.

The thing about Hotscripts is that it is laid out so well, it is so easy to find what you need. There are daily submissions so things are always changing. I visit everyday, not to look for a specific script, but to see what was added. It lists all the new submissions right on the main category page.

In order to rival Hotscripts, you'd need to have a pretty damn good layout. But you have to be careful not to get too close to the way they work - or you'll be seen as a "Hotscripts ripoff". You'll need to reinvent the way the site works, much like they did.

Major problem with hostscripts - no reviews and very few ratings. This is why i go to resourceindex to get those.

I also prefere the navigation structure of resource index with sub categories, makes it easier i think.

so combine, hotscripts quantity of listings, resource index navigation and reviews and add a bit more and you will be storming :-).

I'll work on it! The site has a Yahoo/HotScripts kind of feel to it...not ripping anything off. It's a very "classic" layout...widely used.

Got a killer domain for it too. I'm finishing the layout and will start the database work later on...I'll be personally reviewing lots of scripts to get things moving. :)

Cool, are you using links sql? if so you not going to wait until the next version comes out?

Hope you are going for a community feel for it, getting people to register and then use board (i assume vbulletin will feature!) and linking it all together.

I don't think I'll be using Links SQL - I'm gonna try to write some of it myself. My code will be sloppy I'm sure, but I have a knack for getting it to work - one way or another!

Being 16 I only have so much capital...$450 for Links SQL is not viable right now...I will likely spring for another copy of vBulletin for the site...and yes, I will definetly be tying it all together.

Basically, it will have a "Membership"...a member is registered for the forums, on our mailing list, and can choose to receive emails when new resources are added...if I can learn a bit more about PHP/SQL, I'll make that more advanced...IE: only get emails if someone adds something to the PHP or ASP sections, etc.

I love integrating things like that together...you oughtta see this killer user-comment system I'll be using on MovieForums.com when it fully launches! :)

Hey: if anyone wants to "beta-test" the design and feel of the site, just say so here and post your email and I'll contact you when its done.

I would also love to.

I am going to be creating a large links directory for http://www.AsciFi.com so would love to help out and perhaps be able to get a copy of the scripts you are making. I do not know much php but am going to learn as I go so would like to help out (especially if we can integrate it with vBulletin).

My site is going to be primarily a links Dir as well, but it won't be a huge one, just wrestling related links
I wouldn't mind testing out whatever scripts you are working on either
