Our current forum is suffering from periods of downtime, especially during peak numbers. Frequently we seem to be using up our server's resources, getting out of memory errors or no loading at all.
On average we have about 100-150 people online, thought it can peak to 300+. We are currently on VPS hosting.
Should we be looking to go dedicated, or should VPS really be sufficient? I'm not sure if it's just our current hosts letting us down (We've already "upgraded" our VPS to the maximum level they offer) or if we have actually outgrown it.

It all depends on the vps, I have three boards that size running on one vps. It's all in the proper setup of the OS and software. :) and the host as well.
What is your budget?

IMO, VPS can easily handle 400-500 users online at a time. You need to sort out things with your host and their support team. What are the configurations of your VPS?

That's weird. I have 250 active members a day, and I'm running on a shared plan? What's going on here? :o

It seems like you are hosted on one of our old node which has got only 4 Gigs of RAM. You should contact our VPS team and ask them to move your VPS on one of our new nodes that we have setup recently. Our new nodes have 8 Gigs of RAM and this are high configuration Q6600 Servers.
Eventually we are moving all old servers on this new configuration but the process will take long time to complete upgrade of all servers. You can contact our support team as early as possible and see the performance of your VPS on our new nodes :)

Me too. Real funny. LOL
It is real easy to blame somoene. Actually this is not a hosts resposnibility either. They just have to provide what they promise. Optimizing the vb is not a part of web hosting! As long as they provide the RAM/Space they are safe.
Anyways, Sawell is real lucky. eUK guy will be under pressure to get your site working. I guess he might give you some extra RAm free of cost. I personally dont belive in old server / new server theory. if old servers are bad, they must move all their customer to the new node!
Anyways, keep us posted. Looks like a good story in the making!

DNS propergation yaddayaddayadda. It's gonna take a while. Will let you know as you seem curious :p
In EUK's defence they have helped us a lot in the past, we just seem to run into the "You need to upgrade your hosting" line a bit too much when we report obscure problems.
