With the extra features and functionalities anticipated in upcoming releases I'm curious about the possibility of turning admin defined categories/sub cats into a site periodical newsletter/ezine.
Members would need to be able to submit articles for possible inclusion into an upcoming newsletter.
Members and (possibly guests?) should be able to subscribe to the periodical.
Be able to direct (some) article discussions to a forum thread.
Before dwelling any further on this topic and other possible uses for the blog addon, I'm wondering if this would be taking this addon too far beyond it's originally intended purpose ...
In other words maybe a more specialized "article addon" might be more appropriate or in the works, ....
Or would it be better logistically or practically to expand this addon to serve a number of different uses?
With the ability to create admin definable categories I would also want to be able to display blog entries from categories that relate to our forum as part of forumdisplay pages.
In this way the blog addon would compliment the forum with these featured articles.
The other issue which is equally important to having blogs, articles, periodical newsletters and so forth along with the forum is having a content management system to structure, organize and provide site navigation, especially now with content expanding beyond the forum threads.
At this time personal blogs as currently offered is not needed at our site.
I'm waiting to see how the forum user profile develops, and it hopefully becoming a better means of a user being able to provide a mini webpage type portfolio, at which time the improved blog addon might be useful for our members personal needs.
The blog addon does provide some user permission settings which are not feasible in the forums.
It remains to be seen whether some of these (for example ability to create drafts) will be available eventually in the forum software.
