It would be nice to see blog importers for the members, so that they can import their wordpress or blogger blog into vB blog.
I'm not sure though if Blogger offers an export feature. However, I'm sure that Wordpress does, so it could only be for WP, if Blogger does not allow export.
This would definately increase traffic on the blog, as currently most members in most communities already have a blog on either Blogger or WP, so they would be reluctant to start from scratch.

Interesting idea

Blogger does allow export -- in fact, WordPress has a conversion feature that allows you to import all Blogger/Blogspot entries and comments directly into it.

It's definitely a huge need given that most bloggers are using a commercial blog hosting site and don't want to have to host an archive there and start over on a community site.

Also, it doesn't seem very difficult to make, on a coding aspect...

How about an import-function for vbDrupal? I'm currently using the drupal-blog, but the vbulletin-version looks more interesting right now. Is that possible?

Edit: According to the post below, there is an importer for Drupal. Does it work for vbDrupal?

TMM-TT : Search the impex forum -- there is a thread about migrating vbdrupal blog entries to vb-blog

I'm really not sure what to look for. There's a lot of threads and lot of pages and only searching for "vbdrupal" doesn't give much for an answer. Any tip on how to find such information? ;)

I agree, several members have said they already have established blogs running.

An incremental daily import would work wonders to add the content from these established "Blog stars" to a forum.

I think it needs to be recognized that blogging is well established so any blogging feature needs to have the ability to catch up quickly to the well known front runners

The alternative is that VBulletin forums will have to go through a dull 'baby steps' phase.

Incremental daily import would really allow the blog function to hit the ground running fast and STAY running!

IMHO the established bloggers themselves would be THRILLED to jump into the center of the big arena of eyeballs at the forum I run, and I am sure the membership would appreciate a sophisticated start, so they in turn, could learn from the masters..

The blogging sites might not dig the idea, but then they would get attention from it themselves and after all - who is it that owns the content?

I agree writing to two blogs will be a passion killer, that bloggers need to be passionate about what they do and that they will be reluctant to invest more time into a VBulletin blog.

So a HUGE VOTE YES from me to get this going...

Hmm. Isn't this thread made for speaking about blog-importing/importers? Since I've heard that there's instructions somewhere here, for importing data from blog to blog, I actually see this quite relevant. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if there is an importer or instructions done for importing vbdrupal to vbblog, I would really want to know that, since this thread is called "Blog importers for the members", not "...for wordpress". And actually, I am a member too...! ;)

I also agree that more importers should be "invented"... You want an importer for wordpress, and I want one for vbdrupal. But they are still both importers. Or didn't I understand this thread's real purpose? Help me out. :o

The thread's purpose is about blog importers FOR THE MEMBERS to use, to import THEIR OWN, PERSONAL blog.
For the whole blogging platform there is already ImpEx.
Its two totally different things.

I agree with Jah-Hools, would be a great option for members to port/import their own personal blogs!

Ditto - some of my members have already requuested this - abiluty to import from their existing blogs.

It would be nice if a user's vBlog also looked for (one or two) user specificed feeds to populate itslef - make sense?
