I'm not sure I've posted this in the correct sub-forum. If not please just delete or move it.
But, I had one member's IP who used over 20 GB of bandwidth last night. I haven't contacted him yet, but he seems to be a decent person.
I think perhaps his computer was hacked. I'm probably going to have to pay for some more bandwidth before the month is over.
Anyways, is there any way to prevent one IP from just depleting our bandwidth resources?

Not with vB. That would require some sort of restrictions at the server level for that IP.

You might be getting hammered, but then you need to review the stats to see if it is connect/disconnect and if so, then it is hammering. Your server should or you might be able to restrict/stop repeated attempt failures or mutiple searches/clicks to your forum.
Hammering (ping) is a loop that can be done from your computer or from a site that uses to check connection and can be abuse.
I would like to have this added, but it has to be like what Steve Machol from server level before they can hit your site. If the person keeps on doing this, then you can keep track of this person by documenting all events and bill him for usage.... not!

Thanks for the replies. I have blocked the IP. But, I was surprised it would be so easy for someone to attack your website and consume so much bandwidth in just a few hours.
Thanks
