There is a ping service from Wordpress, every time a new blog post is written, an external server is pinged. I do not know exactly what this is called, but it works this way:
You read an article on a Newspaper's web site, and comment the article on your blog, incuding the URL to the Newspapers article in your comment. If you "ping" the article through some service company (www.twingly.se in Sweden) your blog comment will appear on the Newspapers web site, adjacent to the article you commented.
Is it possible to make such pings from the vBulletin blog module?

Sounds like pingback, just click the "Notify" option before posting your entry and then select the URL to the entry that you referenced.

Hi Freddie ,
There are more than one blog update service like technorati , google etc.. and users mainly donot know about this. However all blogs have an option to ping these services automatically. So maybe you guys can implement an admin defined option for pinging this services automatically via a scheduled task as pinging these services help your site indexed in those sites.
Edit : You can read more from http://www.technorati.com/ping
Automatic Ping
You can set your blog software up to ping Technorati automatically by entering http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping into your blog's configuration.
For more specific guides on how to set up automatic pings in many popular blogging platforms, visit our Ping Configurations page.

Right, pingback is the word!
In the Blogoptions in the admincp, we have allowed both trackback and pingback.
However, when I write a new post, and click the notify option, there is no box for the URL/server which I want to ping. (See attachment1)
But, if I choose to edit a published blog post, I get the option to notify/send an URL (see attachment2)
Is this a bug or have I misunderstood how to pingback when I write a new blog post?

When creating an entry, and you checked "Notify blogs, you will be taken to another page after you submit the entry. From here you can choose from the urls that you used within your post.

But that doesn't work as a regular blog. I want all my blog entries ping tenchnorati and other blog services. Do we really have to add a link to each entry a link to technorati and other services ?

I would like to see an option where technorati and other blog services are pinged for new forum threads.

I was referring to pingback/trackback, what you are referring to is a different protocol. Support for that isn't currently in the product but I can add it to the list.

I would also like to see technorati added to the list, I was playing around last night and couldn't claim my blog.
