View Full Version : Leave closed option when moving thread!

I would like the option to be able to leave a closed version of a thread in the origional forum after I move the topic to another.
Just makes it easy for people coming back to the forums looking for their messages, then they know where it went, and I dont have to answer any "where did my thread go" emails:)

Personally, I'd prefer a refresh added so that it informs the user that his / her post has been moved to a new section (perhaps with a message explaining the move added by the admin) and refreshes over to that section.

Those are both good suggestions - I will bear them in mind for the next version.

I vote for the second one

I could not use the second way of doing it. People on my forum would not want to automatically be redirected to the new thread, I would not be able to even use that. I would just like the simple closed message that I leave for them in their post. That way it will automatically email them to that thread where I specified what forum I moved it to, and why.
That is just me.

That is just me. Nope. Me, too. We've got a ton of "lurkers;" it's not unusual for page views to be 10 or even 100X the number of posts (just as here). Leaving a locked thread behind with the little "This thread has been moved to..." text lets them know where to go to follow a thread that interests them.

I hope we can get this option fairly quickly because my users are used to the way UBB did it, and I believe that is a proper way to do it as well.
I get a lot of people thinking the post was deleted and that is just not good:)

In the long run it's a ton of work, so I retain my hope that the "leave locked copy behind" feature will make it into a future version.
Also, I note that a moved thread currently retains its threadID number. This is great if it can be retained in an update. That way a moderator can post to a thread saying that it is moving, cut and paste the link from the address screen in the browser, and move it after posting. Doing it that way allows participants to get a hot link directly to the moved thread. The threadID on the copy is not important.

The retain moved thread link and probably the email notification are on my to-do list.
