View Full Version : [fixed] Banned email gives 'Bad email' message

While trying to modify and test my new error_banemail template, I noticed something weird. Whenever I try to register with one of the 'banned' email addresses (i.e., yahoo.com) I get the 'bad email' template instead (error_bademail).

Any ideas?

(P.S., I'm using 2.0.1 and I've entered my license info into my profile! ;) )

I think that's by design...banemail is for emails which have been banned in the Banning section of Options.

Thanks Kevin, this is exactly what I'm saying. Emails that have been banned in the Banning Options are getting the 'bademail' template instead of the 'banemail' one.

Any idea why, and how to fix it? To test it out, try registering with a 'yahoo.com' email address (which I've banned) and you'll see that you get the bademail message instead.

Actually, with that change it seems error_bademail isn't even used any more...

I assume that 'bademail' should display when there's a problem with how the email was entered (no '@', 1st and 2nd emails don't match, etc.), and that 'banemail' displays when someone tries to register with a banned email address.

If that's the way it's supposed to be, then it's not working on my board.

Not what I meant. :)

There are three ways to disallow registration (aka banning). First is via a list of email domains. Second is a list of specific email addresses, third is a list of IP addresses. I thought that it was by design to not use banemail for the first item, although now that I think about it it doesn't make much sense.

I've got a good use for bademail - email address validation :D Seriously that seems lacking that there's no checking of the form of an email...

I have noticed that if someone registers with an email address like: "noemail", without the "@" or ".com", they are accepted without any error templates coming up. Not complaining, just thought I would add to the mystery.

PS....you can delete new member "bademailtest" at "noemail". Hey, I had to confirm it wasn't just me :)

2.01 and lovin it!
