does that also disable that form that vb uses instead of a mailto?

No.. I believe that is what enables that form. I'm pretty sure that when "Hide Emails" is off then you get a screen with the email address and you click on it. With it on, you get the "emailform"

I'm not sure what you mean about "instead of a mailto", but if a member sets "Hide Email Address" to "yes", other members will not be able to send that member an email using the standard vBulletin form. When you view that member's profile and click on "Send "member" an email, you will receive:

Sorry! That user has specified that they do not wish to receive emails through this board. If you still wish to send an email to this user, please contact the administrator and they may be able to help.

The actual email address is not viewable to either guests or members. If Hide Email is set to "no", then when a user clicks on "Send member an email," they will be sent to the vBulletin email form where it will say at the top: "Send email to: membername". When Hide Email address is set to "yes" see my post above.

cool...so I can globally set it that I don't want email addresses shown and in no place will it be shown?

Actually, I need to make a correction:

You have two options under User and Registration Options in the Admin CP: Display Email Addresses and Use Email Form. If you set both options to "NO", then when you click on the "Send user an email" link in their profile, their email address WILL be displayed.

If you set Display Email Addresses to "YES" and the Use Email Form to "NO", the users email address will still be displayed and not the form.

If you set Display Email Addresses to "NO" and the Use Email Form to "YES", then when the link is clicked on, the user will be sent to the standard vBulletin email form and no email address is shown.

If you set Display Email Addresses to "YES" and the Use Email Form to "YES", then when the link is clicked on, the user will be sent to the standard vBulletin email form and no email address is shown.

Why would it show an email address if you set Display Email Addresses to no?

Not sure. I verified this twice using 2.0.1. It seems that the setting Use email form? overrides the Display Email addresses? option above. Try it on your own forums.
