Need help upgrading to version 3.6

I currently run Version 3.0.3 and there is a fancy flash skin at the top of the my website. I want to upgrade to version 3.6+ but am not sure which way to go. How would I find a great programmer to do this upgrade? If this is the wrong section to ask this question, sorry and please point me in the right direction. Thanks, Tony:confused:

There's plenty of advice on here for upgrading.

My recommendation:


Backup your forum and download the copy onto your PC, then no matter how many probs you encounter you can always use the backup, in fact, it's a good idea to get into the habit of backing up your forum on a regular basis and storing a copy on your local PC and on CD.


Before you start uploading any files take a look at your existing config.php file and PRINT IT OFF because you will need these details. Pay great attention to these settings! Trust me, I spent ages scratching my head over this until I noticed a subtle '1' missing in the details :confused:


Follow the instructions for the upgrade which are fairly straight-forward and pay particular attention that you DO NOT upload the install.php file.

As to the alternative skins on offer from other sites, once you have carried out the upgrade you will probably need to install an upgraded skin or certain functions may not be available to you.

I speak as a upgrade newbie who took the plunge to upgrade a couple of days ago and much to my relief I didn't break the thing!

Thanks Richpal! I will run your approach by my hosting service. Maybe you are right that we can do it ourselves with your advice and the upgrade information I found elsewhere on this forum. The fancy flash skin was what was concerning me and made me thing we needed expert outside help. I will explore your ideas. All the best, Tony
