View Full Version : Questions about vbulletin

Right now on my site I run a UBB that I've hacked to the bone. And recently Ive done more modifications to the scripting to custom my forums a bit more (I run games on my site and each forum I wanted to be individual other then the membership - basically..) and somewhere along the line I messed something up - I know enough perl programming to know what I was doing but still cant find any reason that my forum deletes itself when making modifications.. Infact thats one reason why I think I am interested in purchasing the vbulletin - the fact that everything that Infopop didnt have on their board I did, vbulletin does - so... that should mean bug free... right?

Well, first I have used some vbulletins at verious sites and know there are some bugs, or at least things I dont like about that version I was using. Now I know 2.0 is out and the forum I read is 2.0 now, dont know what it was.

Anyhow, one problem I noticed was when you edit a post, the post count goes up. When you have a successful community going your bound to have people out there trying to raise their post - you all know that - well with vbulletin someone could very easily, and would, abuse that bug. I want to know if there is a way to remove that or if it already has been that I dont know of.

Secondly - just like this community, the other vbulletin communities Ive been to have been identicle from forum to forum - which I know is very common, but for me Im not interested in that. Does vbulletin allow for as much customization from forum to form as UBB does?

Also I dont like the attachments option - also I dont like the 'Options' area when posting a new message/replying. I know in UBB I could go in with perl and tell it to hide those that I want checked and I would check them (to make them all what options I wanted) and just delete the other options I didnt want.
What I want to know is if I have a option in the control panel to disable attachments and If I wanted to modify the Options throught he scripts - is it that simple for me to do?

Thanks

-edit-
just want to see if the edit will show I have 2 posts now.

I don't know if that bug ever existed but it certainly doesn't now :)

Yes vB allows you to make as many style sets as you need - these can consist of just different colors or a different design/layout as well. You can assign these on a per-forum basis.

There is no option to disable attachments but you can easily do it yourself by taking the option out of the tempalets.
It is simple to modify the posting options with templates.

Hope that helps :)

Attachments are a usergroup permission though I think we should probably change them to a forum permission in the future (or both). And there never was a bug in regards to post counts being affected by editing posts.
