There should be (I think) a list of Blogs like the Members List.

You click on Blogs List and it shows all users that have blogs, how many entries, last activity... To make it easier to find a member's blog.

To that effect there could be a search for a member, or a list of favorite blogs you can easily get back to.

Wording of the link should probably be clarified as it simply says "Find More..." in the bottom of the left column on the blog home page but its there.

As far as Categories, these are created by the blog users. Currently the Admin Doesn't create categories.

I agree that such a page could be useful.

I'd love to have a little input box where I can just enter the name of a member and it will jump me to that blog .. I am having a bit of a hard time finding someone's blog rather quickly.

oooooorrrrr... perhaps a dropdown menu?

I rather directly enter the name, seeing I go to blogs and already know what I want to do.

A Drop Down can get annoying if you have 30,000 members.

I think he meant a dropdown with an input field.

I find an overuse of dropdowns annoying with 1 member. They have their place but there has to be a line drawn somewhere.

ok ok I take it back!! LOL - I'm used to smaller forums. I can see how it wouldn't work with over, say, 25 people, lol.

A simple list of blogs with an input where you can search by blog name (e.g. I named my blog "The Rabid Badger") or username. Don't even ask the user what they want to search. Just search all blog titles first and show those results and then search all usernames and show those results underneath.

It'd actually be nice to use the same system that is used when we add/remove buddies from our buddy list... you start to enter a username and it gives you a list of users with that same spelling and you can just select it, and then just hit search and it will take you to that blog.

And what about the Memberlist? I guess there will be a field added there aswell, so we can list a link to a user's blog inside a column?

I haven't had the time to look through these specific options, can't confirm this.

Kind of limiting in the search options. What if you want to find a blog with particular categories? Or a specific interest? Seems like we'll need 100 input boxes and it will again be confusing to the customer.

It was more in reference to searching actual usernames... although, you could use AJAX here a bit.

I mean, the first thing a user would see is a dropdown field with several options: Usernames, Categories, Interested, etcetera. The user selects one, and an input field appears underneath it to add your search criteria.

A system like though would be nice I think.

I was thinking that section would be updated/replaced with the social network feature?

In my opinion the best suggestions in this thread were the list of blogs (user name, blog title, number of entries and last activity, able to sort by all of them) and the search input box with ajax to suggest user names you are typing. I don't see me searching for blog titles that much.

I would completely agree with this ^

I do, because I will be searching for people with similar interests, or topics.

That wouldn't be in the blog title I don't think, they usually go as "Joe's Ramblings" and such.

Sorry, people use blog title and blog entry title for the same type of thing. I got confused :)

Regarding similiar interests... maybe a similiar blogs box? Basically it would be the similiar threads box but for the blogs.

My point is it should all be searched from a single point. I personally can't really see searching for a person's blog by username because most will probably just go to the user profile and enter the blog from there.

However if I search for Dream and get entries on dream, as well as blogs named Dream, as well as users named Dream who have a blog then I might find something new.

That's what the tag system could be used for. If you add tags you also grow a list of tags used by various people. You can grow this tag list on the right and click on it to find people with similar interest. A lot of social networking sites use that technique.

More on the list of blogs suggestion, the items in the Blog Statistics box could all be links

Total Blogs - link to list of blogs sorted alphabetically by user names
Total Entries - same as "find more..." recent entries
Today's Entries - list of today's entries sorted by most recent

My suggestion would be if a user has a blog then have it show that in that users profile. If they do not have a blog then it would not show up in the users profile. This way if you want to search for a blog by the users name then you can search the Members List and then view the persons profile and click on there blog link in there profile and have it bring you to their blogs.

I still would like to see a listing like the Members List of just users that have blogs. It could display things like Dream mentioned like user name, blog title, interests, number of entries and last activity.

Having just tried to find someone's blog on here without knowing the full spelling of their username, I'd back this point up...

well we have search for projects and search for forums, so I think search for blogs would be a no brainer addition to the family.

There already is a list of all the blogs, but it is not very obvious to the user and should be made more intuitive. Under blog statistics is says "Total Blogs: 100," or something to that effect.
