I understand there is a tool to convert a phpbb to vBulletin.

Can anyone tell me a little more about this please?

Specifically, is it possible to covert to a DIFFERENT server, or does it need to be on the same box?

The same with the backend, I am planning to move from MS SQL on one box to MySQL on the same box as the new board. Any known problems?

Yes, this is the most popular conversion done to my knowledge. It's been done thousands of times. The tool is named ImpEx.

Check out the user manual (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/) under ImpEx.

The data needs to be on the same server, so either you can do the conversion where you are, or move the phpBB data over to the new server.

phpBB and vBulletin both use MySQL and have no use for MS SQL.

Thanks for this. phpbb is actually using MS SQL (supports this or MySQL). Am guessing this shouldn't really matter though...

Nope. Doesn't matter, ImpEx supports both database types for phpBB2

Thanks all.

I am having a problem with the upgrade process. It seems not to do anything past the first module. Finds all the old phpbb_ tables ok, but does nothing - doesn't increment the 'failure' or 'success' numbers in the main import screen.

Anyone come across this before?

If you've purchased vBulletin, then you will be able to get support in the Import forum.
