View Full Version : I just noticed something really odd about this place... Server question inside...

The forums are flying around here. Even with almost 2000 people browsing the forums - the page loads are instantaneous...

However.. I've been trying to search - and I'm getting timeouts and ultimately:

Site currently unavailable

The Jelsoft site you are requesting is currently not available.
Please check back later.

Isn't that strange?? It's like when you go to search, the database is overloaded so it's just not going to happen. But when you're browsing around, it's almost like the server is so relaxed, it's sleeping..

Anyhow.. I was wondering what server setup is being used here at vBulletin.. Is there a separate database server? How many CPUs? What type of hardware? I'm figuring that if I could afford to run whatever vBulletin.com is running, than I'll be okay for awhile..

Thank you in advance...

The search works fine for me (if a bit slow). Keep in mind that the boolean full-text search is very resource intensive, so they may have it set to disable when the server load gets too high.

Yeah i couldn't access this forum for 2 days recently due to exact same error message ... i think it's a possible load balancer or one of the web servers being overloaded.

vB forums runs on a proxy gateway enabled load balancing of 2 web servers connected to a database server.

I'll point the vB folks to this thread as well.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Sorry. I can't be sure.. But it had something to do with the following discussion:

Maybe that'll help...
