situation: where it applies to me... i want to have different visual themes for a few different forums, but i don't want to make a whole new template set for each forum.

http://www.mac-gamer.com/forum/images/smilies/idea.gif proposal: have a complete "styles -> [fonts/colors/etc]" section for each forum that can be optionally customized on a forum by forum basis. It would include everything the regular [fonts/colors/etc] section has, including the header, php include, style sheets, etc. Upon loading a forum the scripts would check to see if a custom [fonts/colors/etc] has been defined for that forum. If yes then load custom. If no then fall back on the default template set.

what are everyone's thoughts on this?

hmmm...

What is proposed is exactly what styles do now. What would be the difference except that if two or more forums shared the same theme you would be increasing your work under your idea as opposed to what is available now.

Doesn't thast require you to also copy all the templates? Hmm maybe not.

what are everyone's thoughts on this? if you don't change any templates or want to use the same template set but different colour schemes then just create a new style set and in properties set

style to new style
but template to default set

I was actually the first to reply to this thread (and said what Kier & eva said) but then I realized he wants to be able to edit the headinclude & phpinclude templates for each theme too. That's not possible with the current system.

exactly. the [fonts/colors/etc] section contains the few templates that make up the overall appearance of a page. by having an option to customize these specific templates under an independant [fonts/colors/etc] section for each forum would make toggling multiple themes and styles a lot easier... especially if you are constantly tweaking all your other default templates. under the current system once you start creating new template sets (which is required for what i want to do) you end up having to copy and paste accross multiple templates sets to keep a uniform appearance as you keep tweaking the other templates. the [fonts/colors/etc] section pulls the few templates that make up the general appearance and theme of a page. i think these should be separated and made customizable on a forum by forum basis by giving each forum its own [fonts/colors/etc] section.

Id be happy with the header and footer templates to be taken out of the template set, and put in the style set. I think theres a link in my sig with more info... heh

yeah huh. just make the templates that are currently editable from the styles sheets completely separate from the other templates. this way you could completely customize the themes of different forums without having to create new template sets. you would just have to create a new style set and keep it pointed to the one template set.
