simsim, you've never used any other software at all .

I have phpBB2, phpBB3, SMF, PunBB & Vanilla installed on my localhost server, but only for education purposes. I use vBulletin for my online site, & will purchase another license(s) as need arises. If I'm to consider using another forum, I would use Vanilla, but only for lightweight sites.

JakeS - I know! Its actually 2000, not 2001. I started my job in 2001 and the site was started about 6 months prior to that.

1997 > 2000: I used wwwboard, ubb, ultraboard, dcforum and wwwthreads.
2000 > 2006: Early vBulletin adopter, used every series, 1, 2, 3.
2006 > present: Community Server

I do have 3 smaller communities still running vbulletin. Those 3 communities will be gone soon. One is sold and the others are for sale.

Community Server is best for large boards? Please don't flame me or start a flame, I'm just curious to know CS scalability. Is it hosted in your server? And what language is it written.

simsim
Thu 7th Jun '07, 8:37pm
I think it's not about large boards, as vBulletin is quite capable of performing very well no matter how much large your forum is. It's about extending a community beyond forums. When you need forums, blogs, reviews, articles, social networking, etc. all to be under a unified logging system & interface, vBulletin comes ways behind community-based software such as CS. Let's hope that the new vBulletin Blog & other upcoming projects by Jelsoft will bridge the missing gap.

I thought AWS main concern was scalability.

Very intresting indeed!well I can cook toast.. it comes out black but it cooks, but heck I wouldn't want to save my life.. I'm not all that bothered, plus I've always had people cook for me, like my mother, burger king kfc gf's etc :).
