I have been running vbulletin flawlessly for a few days now untill I went to edit a post a little bit ago. I got the standard error message that says there was a database error along with this e-mail:
Database error in vBulletin: Invalid SQL: SELECT active, allowposting FROM forum WHERE forumid=
mysql error: You have an error in your SQL syntax near '' at line 1
mysql error number: 1064
Date: Monday 07th of August 2000 11:59:20 PM
Script: /forums/postings.php

Any help would be much appreciated!

With all due respect this is kinda pissing me off. I even e-mailed Joh directly and got a receipt saying he read my e-mail but he wont help. Where do I need to go from here with this?
Now to add to it my users are experiancing problems!

Unfortunetly I am not sure what is causing your problem. Is this error making your forums unavailable, or is it just an inconvenience? I ask this because John is gone for around a week longer (if I remember correctly,) and I am sure he would be happy to help you when he is back from his vacation.
And one more thing:
I even e-mailed Joh directly and got a receipt saying he read my e-mail but he wont help.
Did he actually say this, or was it an auto response of some kind? :)

I registered at your forum and I did not receive any errors when I edited a message. Does this always occur for you or is there a particular post that this error occurs on?
[edit] Since your error message reports that you were in postings.php when the error ocurred is it happening when you do an Admin Edit of a thread?

Yea the first error happened when I went to delete a thread. The thread did get deleted but i didnt receive any confimation, just the db error.
Since then I have received a few reports of errors like the one I linked to above. I just dont want this thing to happen on a regular basis. A person only puts up with so many errors before they stop visiting your site.
Also John is around because he e-mailed me early yesterday in reference to the missing copyright notice on my site. So I think if he has the time for mickey mouse crap like that, he should be able to help or at least comment on database problems that a *out-of-the-box* vb is having. Thats just my $0.02
Thanks to rangerfan , doran and werehere. I do appreciate the attempts to help ;)

all I can tell from that message is that the forumid is missing and it's trying to execute a routine against a missing forum.
It's almost as if it's trying to double up on the routine. look at the routine in postings.php and you will see that this is at the beginning. Could this be a double-click error?
Also, if you removed the copyright notice John is right in the extreme for refusing to help you. Your first post made it sound as if he was just being an ******* because he is on vacation or just refusing to help you out of hand.
Now that we know the copyright notice was removed in violation of the license agreement and desptire the warning not to remove it in the footer template his response makes a helluva lot of sense.

Okay, so I can't just shut up and let this go. Sue me.
In reference to the above statement, I don't think John is spending his time surfing the net to look for license violations, which are *not* "mickey mouse crap" as you so eloquently put it.
I think the more likely scenario is that he went to your board in an attempt to see if he could recreate the problem and saw, while there trying to help (which he does more than willingly), that you had violated the license agreement and refused to help based on that.

Its not like I intentionally removed the copyright link. I simply forgot to re-add it after trying to get some php working in the footer (which is hard to do without propper documentation of how vb actually works) In fact I had readded the copyright text and even made it link to vbulletin.com minutes after being notified of the situation.
Now maybe im being hardheaded but I think if I got my license for free like most of you beta testers did then I wouldnt have any complaints either, but since I am a paying customer I think I have the right to get upset when I have to try to explain to my users why they are getting funky errors like "Fatal error: Call to unsupported or undefined function fetch_array() in admin/db_mysql.php on line 98" when they click on links to threads.
Dont get me wrong vb is by far the best bulletin board software I have ever seen or I wouldnt have purchased it. But from what I have seen so far, support just plain sucks.
Doron:
I am using 1.1.3...dont think its beta, but my understanding was that it was the latest available version.

fetch_array() is a function that is defined in admin/db_mysql.php
If you look at db_mysql.php you can clearly see that this function is defined before the function that references it later on, the line you get an error on. There is nothing wrong with the code and you are the first person to ever report this error. What version of PHP do you use?

In the your first problem you say you were trying to "edit" the thread but by the refer tag we can see you actually pressed the delete thread button.

The reason you received an error can be found here:
http://vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=1288
Try using "search" next time before flying off the handle.

Chris,
You are going to constantly receive a steady stream of different error messages as the program runs. Sometimes it will be a quick glitchin the server that comes and goes, sometimes it will be too many connections, etc, etc, etc. As long as the forum is up and running steadily these are nothing to get overly worried about.
I have a special e-mail set up just for these messages that I never check because they are just temporary things.

That error looks like MySQL flaked out on you as the SQL is a valid statement and the Mysql error is "0" which again makes no sense. Something flaky is happening with your mysqld, what version is it and how many users do you have online.
